Ringwood Hawks have announced that Marta Hermida has re-signed with the club's NBL1 South Women's team for the remainder of the 2023 season!

Marta returns to the Hawks after a busy NBL1 off-season where she played in her hometown of Madrid for Leganes in the top Spanish division, where she averaged 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals. After an incredible season which was capped off with National Team duties in the 3x3 format, Marta was rewarded with a life-changing opportunity in France, where she was signed to play for Landerneau to help maintain the teams place in the top French division. As Marta does, she helped lead her team to a dominant play-down series in which she averaged 9.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals to keep Landerneau in France’s first division.

“It’s been a long time coming, but we are just so pleased to have Marta back. The passion and energy that she brings inspires our group and it’s going to be a lot of fun having #20 back this weekend” Coach Jeremy O’Toole said.

“Marta is an incredible leader. She competes to the highest-level night in and night out and helps set the tone for our group. Her ability to make her teammates better is what makes her so special and is something that is going to help this group immensely going forward. Marta has developed her game again and has improved an already talented skillset which is scary to think of. She will allow us to play a few different lineups as she continues to build upon the chemistry she established last year and build new connections with the players we have added this year, and that is really exciting for our group. We all know how special her season was last year and where that took us as a group and we are excited by the challenge of getting back to work and seeing where this group can get to this season”.

“As happy as we are to have Marta back, I know our fans will be just as thrilled with this news also. Marta formed one half of the famous ‘Euro Duo’ last year and whilst I know our fans would have loved to have seen both Diggy and Marta back this year, we know everyone will still be thrilled that we have at least one member of the duo back this season. Having said that, it was a conversation between Diggy and Marta which I think helped Marta realise how much she missed us here in Australia. That helped make this all possible and for that, I can’t thank Diggy enough for her ongoing support and I just want her to know that we are all with you as you continue to recover ahead of your next season in Europe”
