The Bendigo Braves have re-signed the powerhouse forward Megan McKay, following her outstanding performance in the NBL1 South 2023 season.

McKay, who was crowned the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP), proved her dominance on the court with an average of 24 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, as the Braves acheived the first ever undefeated NBL1 South season.

The Bendigo Braves' Head Coach, Mark Alabakov, expressed his excitement about retaining McKay for the upcoming season. "Meg is one of the best post players I've ever had the privilege of working with. She's a world-class presence at the basket with her sealing, footwork, and ability to finish through contact, and her work rate for a post player is second to none in Australian Basketball," said Alabakov.

Reflecting on McKay's achievements, Coach Alabakov continued, "Meg is another best-kept secret in Australian Basketball, in my opinion, and I'm glad she got to showcase her talents against the weekly tough games we had in NBL1 to become the league's MVP. Then, to back that up on the national stage and win the NBL1 National MVP with a match-winning performance in the final—it's truly remarkable."

Coach Alabakov took pride in seeing McKay return to her best form and highlighted her positive impact both on and off the court. "It was so rewarding for me to see her back to her best, smiling and having fun in a supportive team environment. I'm stoked to my core and have so much pride seeing her perform at a level that makes people stand up and pay attention."

Apart from her on-court prowess, McKay's contributions to the Bendigo basketball community were also acknowledged by Coach Alabakov. "Meg is as genuinely wholesome a human being as you'll meet. She's incredibly generous with her time and has spent many hours coaching, mentoring, and contributing to the basketball scene in Bendigo. It's what makes her a role model for so many girls and boys in our region."
