NBL1 South champion Marta Hermida is returning to the Ringwood Hawks for the reminder for the 2023 NBL1 season.

After leading the Hawks to the NBL1 South Grand Final, and being a critical piece to the second-placed finish in the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 National Finals -- the Spanish guard returns to try to win it all once again.

Between the NBL1 seasons, she played for her hometown Madrid for Leganes in the top Spanish division and in France, where she was signed to play for Landerneau to help maintain the team's place in the top French division.

Last season she averaged 16.2 points, 6.8 assists and 6.7 rebounds for the championship side.

Head coach Jeremy O’Toole said it is amazing to have Hermida back in green ahead of their game against Launceston and Hobart in Round 9.

“It’s been a long time coming, but we are just so pleased to have Marta back. The passion and energy that she brings inspires our group and it’s going to be a lot of fun having #20 back this weekend," O’Toole said via Ringwood's Facebook page.

“Marta is an incredible leader. She competes to the highest-level night in and night out and helps set the tone for our group. Her ability to make her teammates better is what makes her so special and is something that is going to help this group immensely going forward.

"Marta has developed her game again and has improved an already talented skillset which is scary to think of. She will allow us to play a few different lineups as she continues to build upon the chemistry she established last year and build new connections with the players we have added this year, and that is really exciting for our group.

"We all know how special her season was last year and where that took us as a group and we are excited by the challenge of getting back to work and seeing where this group can get to this season,"

Watch the Ringwood Hawks take on the Launceston Tornadoes tonight from 6:00pm via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App here.
