NBL1 South Recap | Friday Men's Round 10

There were first-rate Friday night NBL1 South victories in Round 10 for the Hobart Chargers, Bendigo Braves and Ringwood Hawks.

There were first-rate Friday night NBL1 South victories in Round 10 for the Hobart Chargers, Bendigo Braves and Ringwood Hawks.

Round 10 in the NBL1 South 2022 season began on Wednesday night with the Melbourne Tigers claiming a heart stopping 77-75 win against the Ringwood Hawks.

Friday night's action got underway with the Bendigo Braves opening up a big lead and then holding on to beat the Geelong Supercats 79-71.

Malcolm Bernard produced 24 points, four steals and three assists for Bendigo with Isaac Turner top-scoring for the Supercats with 16 points.

The Hobart Chargers kept their hot streak of form going at home to the Dandenong Rangers, winning 107-80.

Harry Froling put up another 28 points with five threes for Hobart while Ole Angerstein was a powerful presence at either end with 25 points, nine boards and three blocks. Deng Puoch top-scored for Dandenong with 18 points and seven rebounds.

The Ringwood Hawks then prevailed in a tight affair at home to the Waverley Falcons 84-79.

Kyle Daggett led the charge for Ringwood with 21 points and seven rebounds with Tim Guers adding 16 points, 13 boards and five assists. Tristan Forsyth finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Waverley.

Round 10 in the NBL1 South will continue on Saturday evening with the Sandringham Sabres hosting the Geelong Supercats, the Knox Raiders at home to the Ballarat Miners and the Diamond Valley Eagles taking on the Casey Cavaliers.

Keilor Thunder are also at home to Kilsyth Cobras while the North West Tasmania Thunder are playing the Dandenong Rangers with the Mount Gambier Pioneers hosting the Eltham Wildcats, and Frankston Blues battling the Nunawading Spectres.

Then on Sunday, it's the Melbourne Tigers hosting the Diamond Valley Eagles.

GEELONG SUPERCATS 71 lost to BENDIGO BRAVES 79

The Bendigo Braves started on fire to set up an eventual eight-point road victory against the Geelong Supercats on Friday night in Round 10 NBL1 South action.

The Braves arrived at The Arena on Friday night ready to make a statement as they went on to score 12 straight points in the first quarter before ending up leading 27-13 by quarter-time.

Bendigo consolidated that advantage by turning that lead into one of 23 points during the second term before going into half-time leading 52-34.

The Braves then put the game well out of reach of the Supercats with another 12-0 run in the third quarter to lead by as much as 32 points.

While Geelong did finish strongly from there including 21 points to eight in the fourth quarter to make the final scoreline respectable, it was a comfortable 79-71 victory for the Braves.

The victory improves Bendigo to a 7-6 record on the season while the loss sees Geelong slip to 8-4.

Malcolm Bernard produced an outstanding performance in the win for the Braves with 24 points, four steals and three assists while Jake Lloyd added 19 points and five boards.

Luke Rosendale added 11 points and four rebounds for Bendigo, and point guard Mitch Clarke seven points, six rebounds and six assists.

Isaac Turner finished up top-scoring for the Supercats with 16 points while hitting 4/11 from three-point range with Owen Odigie adding 15 points, nine boards and three assists.

Gabe Hadley also had 10 points and four rebounds for Geelong, Demarcus Gatlin 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Kris Blicavs nine points and three assists.

 

HOBART CHARGERS 107 defeated DANDENONG RANGERS 80

The Hobart Chargers are the hottest team in NBL1 South right now and they continued that form at home on Friday night with a 27-point victory against the Dandenong Rangers.

The Chargers were back home at Kingborough Sports Centre on Friday night in Round 10 action and it did take them until the second half to end up overpowering the Rangers.

The Chargers only led by three at quarter-time and just by four at half-time, but they began to pull away on the back of seven straight points in the third term to open up a 16-point edge at one stage.

Hobart then rammed home their advantage in the fourth quarter with another 30 points to 15 to lead by as much as 27 which was the final margin in the 107-80 victory.

The win improves the Chargers to a 10-3 record on the season while the loss leaves the Rangers at 4-9.

Harry Froling continued his stunning form for Hobart as he gears up for his NBL return to the Brisbane Bullets. He produced another 28 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds on the back of hitting 5/10 from three-point land.

Ole Angerstein was once more quite the intimidating force at both ends of the court finishing with 25 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots while shooting 12/17.

Jamar Sandifer added 14 points, five rebounds and three steals, Jack Stanwix 11 points and four boards, and Jacob Richards 10 points and six rebounds.

Deng Puoch ended up top-scoring for Dandenong with 18 points and seven rebounds while Dyson King-Hawea contributed 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, Calvin Enge 12 points, three boards and three steals, and Lawson Eales nine points and four rebounds.

 

RINGWOOD HAWKS 84 defeated WAVERLEY FALCONS 79

The Ringwood Hawks had to battle hard to overcome the Waverley Falcons on Friday night at home but did end up winning by five points.

The Hawks were at home to the Falcons at Norwood Secondary College but it was Waverley who made the hot start opening up a 12-point advantage by quarter-time on the back of an 8-0 run.

Ringwood turned the tide with their own 7-0 run in the second period and that saw them outscore the Falcons 27 points to 17 to cut the deficit to two points at the main break.

It remained a tight contest but when Kyle Daggett scored a couple of baskets early in the fourth quarter and then Matthew Snow turned that into a 6-0 run for Ringwood, it turned into a match-winning advantage.

A Dan Dillon layup did bring Waverley back within a point with under three minutes left, but Daggett responded in kind immediately for the Hawks before Emmett Naar pushed the advantage back out to five and they ended up winning 84-79.

The victory improves the Hawks to an 8-6 record so far this season while the Falcons are 7-5.

Kyle Daggett finished the night with 21 points and seven rebounds on 10/15 shooting for Ringwood with Emmett Naar adding 17 points, eight assists and six boards.

Tim Guers finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists with Matthew Roberts contributing 13 points.

Tristan Forsyth was a strong force for Waverley with 17 points and 12 rebounds with Dexter Kernich-Drew adding 15 points and three boards, Dan Dillon 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Durrell McDonald 13 points, four boards and two assists.
