Alicia Froling lifted the Knox Raiders to a win to end a five-game NBL1 South losing run on Friday night while Perth Lynx WNBL signing Miela Goodchild starred for the Mount Gambier Pioneers before men's wins too for their respective teams.

The two Friday night women's matches to open the King's Birthday long weekend in the NBL1 South saw the Knox Raiders beat the Nunawading Spectres 79-68 and the Mount Gambier Pioneers defeat the Diamond Valley Eagles 82-75.

The men's matches to conclude Round 9 saw the Pioneers beat the Eagles 91-77 and the Raiders defeat the Spectres 95-76.

Froling lifts Raiders to streak snapping win

Alicia Froling has helped lift the Knox Raiders to a drought breaking win in the NBL1 South as she put up 24 points and 12 rebounds in the 79-68 road win to the Nunawading Spectres.

The Raiders came into the Friday night contest at Nunawading Basketball Centre on a five-game losing streak ahead of taking on a Spectres team knocking on the door of the top eight having won their past two matches.

Knox did start well away from home with a five-point lead by quarter-time and the Raiders were still on top 42-37 by the main break.

Nunawading took charge, though, in the third quarter and outscored Knox 23 points to 15, and still the Spectres were four points up during the fourth period with the game in hand.

However, the Raiders fired back to score 10 straight points to open up a double-figure lead by the final buzzer to score the eventual 11-point win.

The victory improves Knox to an 8-7 record on the season with the Spectres slipping to 7-7 with the defeat.

Alicia Froling was the star of the evening for the Raiders with 24 points, 12 rebounds and two assists while shooting 11/19 from the floor.

Kiera Rowe also produced 20 points, four rebounds and two assists for Knox while knocking down 6/11 from three-point territory.

Rachael Quirk also had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds, and Emilie Hesseldal seven points, 11 boards, five assists and two steals.

Rachel Antoniadou put up 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals for Nunawading while shooting 9/13 from the field and 3/5 from downtown.

Devon Brookshire added 13 points and six rebounds, Alice Kunek 12 points, five boards, four assists and two blocks, and Rachel Brewster nine points and three rebounds.

Goodchild fires again as Pioneers keep winning

The Mount Gambier Pioneers ensured they head into the King's Birthday long weekend on another impressive winning streak after beating the Diamond Valley Eagles 82-75 on Friday night.

After winning the opening five games of the season, the Pioneers did lose three straight but the return of newly signed Perth Lynx WNBL guard Miela Goodchild has helped them pick up momentum again which they continued on Friday night.

Back home at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre and Mount Gambier played host to a Diamond Valley team clinging to a place in the top eight, and it was the visitors who made a fast start to lead by 11 points early on.

However, the Pioneers fired back going on a 12-0 scoring run and that helped them lead 21-18 by quarter-time.

Mount Gambier was able to open up an 11-point lead during the second quarter too and went into the half-time interval leading 42-35.

They couldn’t quite shake Diamond Valley, though, and the Eagles even briefly grabbed the lead in the third quarter on the back of scoring nine consecutive points.

But the Pioneers were spurred on by their home crowd and took charge again in the final period to end up winning by seven points.

The victory means Mount Gambier has won five straight to improve to a 10-3 record on the season while Diamond Valley is now 7-7 after consecutive defeats.

On the back of signing at the Lynx for the upcoming WNBL season, Miela Goodchild was outstanding once more for the Pioneers with 24 points and six rebounds on 9/15 shooting from the floor.

Isabella Brancatisano delivered 14 points and six boards for the Pioneers, Cassandra Brown 14 points and four boards, Haliegh Reinoehl 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Sherrie Calleia nine points, nine assists and eight boards.

Kara Tessari finished with 19 points, five assists and three rebounds while knocking down 5/10 from downtown. Sophie Burrows also hit 4/10 for 18 points and four boards with Allison Day contributing 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Knox overpower Nunawading to consolidate top four spot

The Knox Raiders delivered a dominant second half performance on the road to end up beating the Nunawading Spectres 95-76 heading into the King's Birthday long weekend.

Knox came into the contest looking for the win to further consolidate a spot in the top four while Nunawading were at home looking to break into the that top four so the stage was set for a terrific contest.

It started in lively fashion too with the Spectres leading 27-26 by the end of the opening period before Knox was able to work on top and lead 48-45 at the half-time interval.

The Raiders took charge in the second half, though, to outscore the Spectres 47 points to 32 and to end up winning by 19 to improve to 11-4 on the season having won three straight.

The three-game winning run of Nunawading came to an end as they remained outside the top four at 9-5.

Ke'Jhan Feagin delivered 24 points and eight assists for Knox on 10/17 shooting including 3/6 from three-point range.

Wayne Stewart Jr also had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Bailey Nunn 12 points and three assists, and Deng Acouth 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Jack Gandolfo finished with 16 points for Nunawading while Jalen Gibbs had 16 points, three rebounds and two assists, but it was Will Carius once again top-scoring with 23 points, eight rebounds and three dimes.

Mount Gambier make it consecutive wins

The Mount Gambier Pioneers are now on a winning streak again after beating the Diamond Valley Eagles 91-77 at home on Friday night.

It has been quite the rollercoaster ride so far this season for Mount Gambier as they prepared to host Diamond Valley at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.

Both teams came into the contest occupying positions in the bottom part of the top eight and scorers were all tied at 22-apiece by the end of the first period.

Mount Gambier put together a standout second quarter, though, with 30 points to 13 to go into the half-time break leading 52-35.

That remained the advantage for the Pioneers through much of the second half before they secured the eventual 14-point victory.

The win improves Mount Gambier to an 8-5 record on the season now having won two in-a-row following a five-game losing run which came after a six-game winning streak to open the season.

Diamond Valley slips to 7-7 with a fourth consecutive defeat.

Tom Kubank top-scored in what was an even performance from the Pioneers with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Austin Shelley also had 15 points, two assists and two steals, Jacob Lampkin 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, and Will Mayfield 13 points and two assists.

BJ Symons ended up with 15 points and 16 rebounds for Diamond Valley with Jock Perry adding 13 points and 10 boards, and Ngor Manyang nine points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
