Fresh off winning the WNBL championship with the Southside Flyers, Klara Wischer and Carley Ernst led the Sandringham Sabres and Waverley Falcons to NBL1 South wins while the Mount Gambier Pioneers men won at home despite a spectacular Frankston Blues opening.

The women's contests in the NBL1 South on Saturday saw the Sandringham Sabres beat the Kilsyth Cobras 70-54 with the Ringwood Hawks defeating the Melbourne Tigers 92-85, the Eltham Wildcats downing the Nunawading Spectres 84-59, and the Waverley Falcons winning 80-66 against the Hobart Chargers.
The Dandenong Rangers also defeated the Launceston Tornadoes 84-72 with the Mount Gambier Pioneers beating the Frankston Blues 85-53.
Then men's contests then delivered the Sabres beating the Cobras 112-73, the Hawks downing the Tigers 80-74, the Rangers prevailing 101-71 against the North West Tasmania Thunder while the Wildcats downed the Spectres 96-75, the Falcons beat the Chargers 93-85 and the Pioneers won 93-87 against the Blues.

Kilsyth Cobras (54) lost to Sandringham Sabres (70)
Despite a short rotation, the Sandringham Sabres scored a second win of Round 2 with Klara Wischer inspired and lifting them to the 70-54 road victory against the Kilsyth Cobras.
After losing their opening two games of the season, Sandringham got on the board back on Wednesday night beating the Casey Cavaliers coming into Saturday night's battle with the winless Cobras at Kilsyth Sports Centre.
Sandringham opened up a seven-point lead in the first quarter and were in front the rest of the way aside from a 19 second stretch in the second term when scores were level.
But the Sabres were able to open up a 10-point lead again in the second quarter and then push it out to a 16-point ball game by the final buzzer to improve to 2-2 on the season with Kilsyth now 0-4 and still searching for that first win.
Coming off being part of the Southside Flyers team that won the WNBL championship, Klara Wischer has started the NBL1 season on fire with the Sabres. She had another 26 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks on 10/12 free-throw shooting.
Funda Nakkasoglu also had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Eilidh Simpson 11 points and three assists, and Emma Nankervis nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Tegan Cunningham top-scored for Kilsyth with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists with Georgia Booth contributing 10 points, four boards, two assists and two steals, and Nikita Young nine points, four assists and three rebounds.

Melbourne Tigers (85) lost to Ringwood Hawks (92)
The Ringwood Hawks opened up an 18-point lead in the final quarter and then held out the Melbourne Tigers for the 92-85 victory away from home.
Both teams came into the contest at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre yet to lose this season with the Tigers having won their first two games and the Hawks their opening four setting up a tantalising match up.
Melbourne went on an 8-0 scoring run in the first quarter and were still up 27-24 by the end of one while then clinging to a 45-44 advantage by the main break.
However, it was Ringwood who took charge in the third quarter and on the back of scoring 15 straight points, they went from being down four to leading by 11.
That lead for the Hawks got out to as much as 18 in the fourth quarter as well and while the Tigers dig get back within seven, Ringwood did enough to win by seven and improve to 5-0 to start the season.
Ahlise Hurst was outstanding in the win for Ringwood with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists while knocking down 5/11 from three-point territory.
Jack Animam added 20 points, 13 rebounds and three assists on 9/14 shooting with Digna Strautmane contributing 15 points, 11 boards and three assists, and Lana Hollingsworth 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Sam Simons produced 24 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Tigers with Jade Melbourne threatening a triple-double with 14 points, 10 boards, eight assists, four steals and two blocked shots.
Steph Blicavs added 17 points and four rebounds, Charlotte Brancatisano eight points and two assists, and Tylah Hooper eight points with 2/4 from downtown.

Eltham Wildcats (84) defeated Nunawading Spectres (59)
It was the battle of winless teams on Saturday night and it was the Eltham Wildcats getting on the board with the 84-59 victory over the Nunawading Spectres.
The Wildcats had lost their first three matches of the season including to the Dandenong Rangers back on Wednesday night while the Spectres had lost their first two games going back to last weekend.
Both teams locked horns at Montmorency Secondary College and one of them would be getting on the board, and it was Eltham who took no time taking control with 24 points to 10 in the opening quarter.
The Wildcats remained in control from there leading by as much as 19 points in the second quarter and then pushing the advantage out to as much as 31 points before settling on the 25-point victory to open their account for 2024.
It was a strong all-round performance from Eltham with Lily Scanlon top-scoring with 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Shannon Dufficy added 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks with Hailey Leidel contributing 12 points, four boards and four assists, Taylah Wynne 12 points and four assists, and Erin Riley 11 points and three rebounds.
Isabel Feller finished with 15 points, three steals and two rebounds with Bride Kennedy-Hopoate contributing 13 points and five boards.

Hobart Chargers (66) lost to Waverley Falcons (80)
The Waverley Falcons have now strung consecutive wins together after beating the Hobart Chargers 80-66 on Saturday night.
Waverley lost the opening two games of the season but then headed to Tasmania this weekend and beat the Launceston Tornadoes on Friday ahead of playing the Chargers on Saturday at Pembroke Park.
The Chargers were 1-1 to start the season too and the home team started well opening an 11-point lead in the first quarter and still being on top 19-15 by the end of one.
Waverley responded in stunning fashion, though, scoring 18 consecutive points to open up a nine-point lead of their own. The Falcons would hold the Chargers to just five points in the second quarter to go into half-time leading 33-24.
Waverley pushed that lead out to 14 points in the third quarter and that would end up being the final margin with the Falcons improving to 2-2 as a result.
Carley Ernst came up huge for the Southside Flyers in the WNBL championship triumph and delivered again for Waverley with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists while Amelia Todhunter contributed 16 points, three boards and two assists.
Liana Kinkela also had 10 points and six rebounds, Sharna Thompson 10 points, four steals, three locks and three rebounds, Sophia Locandro eight points, and Orla O'Reilly eight points, seven boards, five assists and four steals.
Cierra Walker top-scored for Hobart with 16 points and seven rebounds with Kayla Steindl contributing 15 points and 15 boards, and Zoe Banks 12 points, two rebounds and two assists.
The Chargers head back to Victoria next week to face the Nunawading Spectres on Saturday at 5:30pm local time via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App. The Falcons are back home to the Melbourne Tigers also on Saturday.

Launceston Tornadoes (72) lost to Dandenong Rangers (84)
Even with the absence of Nyadiew Puoch, the Dandenong Rangers completed a perfect weekend in Tasmania beating the Launceston Tornadoes 84-72.
The Rangers beat the Hobart Chargers by 19 points on Friday night ahead of taking on the Tornadoes at Mazda BT-50 Thunder Stadium on Saturday.
Launceston lost at home on Friday as well by 32 points to the Waverley Falcons as they still searched for a first win of 2024 but it wasn’t to be with Dandenong in control from go to woe.
The Rangers managed to open up a 10-point lead in the first quarter with the advantage growing to 20 points in the second frame and 29 in the third before holding out Launceston for the eventual 12-point win to see Dandenong improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Rangers still came away with the win despite not having Nyadiew Puoch with Dallas Loughridge delivering 24 points, four assists and four steals on 7/11 shooting from the field and 9/9 at the foul line.
Imogen Rock also contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Manuela Puoch 17 points, 11 boards, three assists and three steals, and Amber Smith nine points and seven rebounds.
The Tornadoes are now 0-3 with the loss with Sarah O'Neill putting up 19 points, two rebounds and two steals with Ava McDonald contributing 17 points, three boards and three assists, Trinity Oliver 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and Josie Pinkerton 13 points and nine boards.

Mount Gambier Pioneers (85) defeated Frankston Blues (53)
The Mount Gambier Pioneers enjoyed the comforts of home for the first time in 2024 beating the Frankston Blues 85-53 to remain undefeated.
Mount Gambier won its first two games of the season on the road to Sandringham and Waverley and it was back home for the Pioneers on Saturday at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre to play host to a Blues team looking to improve on a 1-2 start.
Mount Gambier had opened up a seven-point lead by the end of the opening quarter and then stretched that advantage to as much as 13 points in the second term, and were leading 38-27 by the half.
The Pioneers blew the game open in the third stanza outscoring the Blues 26 points to 14. The home team then continued that momentum to end up leading by as much a 35 points before winning by 32 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Haliegh Reinoehl had a terrific night for Mount Gambier finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds and two assists on 10/18 shooting from the floor and 3/5 from three-point territory.
Isabella Brancatisano added 17 points and four assists, Sherrie Calleia 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, Zitina Aokuso 14 points, 12 boards and five assists, and Samantha Fatkin 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
WNBL championship winner Lou Brown put up 17 points and 13 rebounds for Frankston with Steph Reid contributing 13 points, four boards, three assists and three steals, and Kassie Boorer 10 points and three rebounds.

Kilsyth Cobras (73) lost to Sandringham Sabres (112)
The Sandringham Sabres had yet to win this NBL1 South season but they changed that in commanding fashion on Saturday with a thumping 112-73 win on the road to the Kilsyth Cobras.
The Sabres had lost their opening three matches of the season including at the expense of the Casey Cavaliers back on Wednesday despite welcoming Melbourne United NBL pair Shea Ili and Tanner Krebs into the line-up following being part of the Championship Series against the JackJumpers.
Sandringham came up against the Cobras at Kilsyth Sports Centre on Saturday night with the home team looking for a second win of the season, but the Sabres were a team on a mission.
By quarter-time and Sandringham had opened up the 32-19 advantage and that lead would only continue to grow throughout the evening.
The Sabres would end up leading by 20 points in the second quarter, 28 in the third on the back of a 12-0 scoring streak, and then 39 in the fourth on the back of scoring 12 consecutive points once more.
Sandringham would score its first win of the season to the tune of 39 points with Tom Koppens putting up 21 points and 16 rebounds on 8/13 field goal shooting.
CJ Asuncion-Byrd added 18 points and four rebounds on 8/12 shooting with Campbell Blogg contributing 16 points, five boards and five assists, Dave Barlow 16 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Tanner Krebs 14 points, 10 boards and six assists.
Shea Ili also had 12 points and eight assists with Joel Foxwell contributing 10 points and three rebounds.
Kyle Adnam finished with 16 points and three assists in the big loss for Kilsyth with Josh Duach adding 13 points, five boards and two assists.

Melbourne Tigers (74) lost to Ringwood Hawks (80)
The Ringwood Hawks withstood a late charge from the Melbourne Tigers to continue their strong start to the season with the 80-74 road victory.
Ringwood came into the contest at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre having won three of four games so far this season while the Tigers were still chasing that first victory after two defeats.
The Hawks were fresh off beating the defending champion Knox Raiders on Thursday and kept that momentum rolling to open up an 11-point lead on the Tigers in the first quarter.
That grew to a 14-point advantage in the second term, 16 in the third and 17 in the fourth.
The Tigers did mount a fightback and made things interesting late getting back within four points following a three-pointer from Felix von Hofe.
But Ringwood steadied in the final minute to seal the six-point win at the foul line to improve to 4-1 on the season with the Tigers still winless after three games.
Jonathan Lawton kept his tremendous form going for the Hawks with another 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks on 4/8 three-point shooting.
Braelen Bridges also contributed 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists with Tom Carroll contributing 12 points and 12 boards, Harry Sealey eight points, two rebounds and two assists, and Matt Roberts eight points and four boards.
Jack Purchase top-scored for the Tigers with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists with Taj Chehhal adding 12 points and four assists, Mason Gaze 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Michael Wearne 10 points and two assists.

Eltham Wildcats (96) defeated Nunawading Spectres (75)
It was the depth of the Eltham Wildcats that was on show on Saturday night in their 96-75 home victory against the Nunawading Spectres.
Eltham had won two of the first three games of the season with some spectacular performances especially first up from NBL free agent Angus Glover, but the most pleasing part was the number of contributors they had against the Spectres on Saturday.
The Wildcats were at home at Montmorency Secondary College up against a Nunawading team having won its first two matches of the NBL1 South season.
After a tight opening quarter, Eltham took charge of the contest in the second term by going on a 10-0 run and leading by as much as 19 points, and being on top 58-40 by the half-time interval.
From there the Wildcats saw their lead grow to 23 points in the third quarter and 26 in the fourth before winning by 21 to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Eltham had seven players scoring seven points or more in the game showing their depth with Angus Glover delivering another 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists on just nine field goal attempts.
Owen Foxwell delivered a double-double made up of 18 points and 11 assists with Josh Sykes contributing 15 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots, and Zak Cunningham 14 points and six boards.
Ovie Magbegor added 10 points and five rebounds, Lachlan Wood nine points, three boards and two steals, and Sam Short seven points, five assists and four rebounds.
Jalen Johnson top-scored in the loss for Nunawading with 22 points and eight rebounds while connecting on 5/10 from three-point range.
Kingsley Box also had 13 points and two steals, Christian D'Angelo 12 points, and Jack Gandolfo 11 points and four assists.

Hobart Chargers (85) lost to Waverley Falcons (93)
The Waverley Falcons completed the successful road double in the land of the JackJumpers by beating the Hobart Chargers 93-85.
Waverley came into the round having lost the first two matches of the season at the hands of the Bendigo Braves and Mount Gambier Pioneers, but they got back to winning on Friday with the 20-point win over the North West Tasmania Thunder.
They remained in Tasmania to take on the Chargers on Saturday at Pembroke Park with Hobart attempting to double up on beating the Dandenong Rangers on Friday.
With both teams coming off wins it loomed as a fascinating contest and that was still the case by quarter-time with scores all square at 23-23.
Waverley were able to take a narrow 43-39 lead into half-time but it was in the third quarter the Falcons began to pull away to lead by as much as 14 points, and then hold on from there for the eight-point victory.
Maurice Howard produced a spectacular performance in the win for Waverley with 36 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals on the back of shooting 13/23 from the field, 4/10 from downtown and 6/6 from the foul line.
Malik Meunier put up another 17 points and five assists with Dexter Kernich-Drew contributing 13 points, five assists and four rebounds, Mason Forbes 11 points and seven boards, and Matthew McCarthy 10 points and seven rebounds.
Ole Angerstein was an imposing presence once more for Hobart putting up 23 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks on 10/13 shooting from the field.
Vionte Daniels also had 17 points and six rebounds, Joe Chilcott 16 points and five assists, and Jacob Richards 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.

North West Tasmania Thunder (71) lost to Dandenong Rangers (101)
The Dandenong Rangers avoided heading back home without a win from the Apple Isle with an emphatic Saturday performance to beat the North West Tasmania Thunder 101-71.
Dandenong started their weekend in Tasmania losing to the Hobart Chargers on Friday night while the Thunder began their home double with a loss to the Waverley Falcons after a first up victory last week against Hobart.
The Rangers would dominate the contest from the outset leading by 12 points during the first quarter and still 24-15 by quarter-time.
The lead for Dandenong got out to 14 during the second term and then it was even more dominance from the Rangers in the second half with the lead growing to 27 points in the third stanza on the back of an 11-0 scoring streak.
The lead got out to 33 points in the final period with Dandenong to end up winning by 30 to improve to 3-2 with the Thunder now 1-2.
Tad Dufelmeier produced a spectacular performance for Dandenong showing NBL teams could still do worse than giving him another opportunity. He finished with 29 points and seven assists on 9/14 shooting from the field, 2/3 from downtown and 9/11 at the foul line.
Jacob Tryon also delivered 24 points and 18 rebounds for the Rangers with Jack Roberts contributing 18 points and five assists, and Mason Peatling 12 points and nine rebounds.
Seth Swalve top-scored in the loss for North West Tasmania with 18 points and four assists with Ryley Haywood adding 11 points and two rebounds, and Tre Armstrong eight points, six boards and three assists.

Mount Gambier Pioneers (93) defeated Frankston Blues (87)
The Mount Gambier Pioneers remain undefeated in 2024 and have handed the Frankston Blues their first defeat with the 93-87 victory.
The Pioneers opened the season with a pair of road wins against the Sandringham Sabres and Waverley Falcons ahead of hosting Frankston at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.
That's a Blues team having won their opening three matches of the season against Keilor, Eltham and Diamond Valley as well setting up the battle of undefeated teams.
It was the most spectacular of starts from Frankston too as they raced out to a 22-2 lead with some simply remarkable shooting.
By the end of the first quarter, the Blues had made 7/8 of their three-point attempts to be leading 38-19 and they had thrown down the gauntlet to the Pioneers on their home floor where Frankston had not won at since 2013.
While Frankston were never going to keep shooting at that remarkable clip, an early 25-point lead was quite the challenge for Mount Gambier to fight back from and by half-time, they had done a lot of that hard work.
Going into the break and the Pioneers had cut the Blues lead to 52-45 and then while there were some nervous scares late, by the time Mount Gambier opened up an eight-point fourth quarter lead, they were able to secure the six-point win despite Nick Marshall fouling out.
The victory improves Mount Gambier to a 3-0 record on the season with Dylan Marshall having top-scored with 23 points on 4/7 three-point shooting.
Akech Aliir also delivered 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals with Austin Shelley contributing 15 points, three assists and three steals, and Nick Marshall 15 points, five boards and four assists before fouling out late.
Daniel Trist finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for Frankston on shooting 10/14 from the floor and 4/5 from behind the three-point arc.
Lachlan Barker added 16 points, Klay Brown 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Lucas Barker 10 points, five boards, three assists and three steals.
