It was a pair of Sunday NBL1 South wins for the Sandringham Sabres over the Bendigo Braves while Tyler Rudolph helped Ballarat Miners to win a thriller against the Diamond Valley Eagles and Waverley Falcons had two big wins.

Sunday's women's results in the NBL1 South saw the Diamond Valley Eagles beat the Ballarat Miners 98-57 while the Sandringham Sabres defeated the Bendigo Braves 84-82, the Eltham Wildcats downed the Hobart Chargers 90-85 and the Waverley Falcons beat the Launceston Tornadoes 80-63.

Then in the men's matches, the Miners beat the Eagles 99-96, the Sabres defeated the Braves 89-65, the Chargers downed the Wildcats and the Falcons won big 117-77 against the North West Tasmania Thunder

Ballarat Miners (57) lost to Diamond Valley Eagles (98)

The Diamond Valley Eagles took advantage of the shorthanded Ballarat Miners for the 98-57 road victory on Sunday afternoon.

Ballarat were back on their home floor at Selkirk Stadium still without Chloe Bibby, Abbey Wehrung and Micah Simpson, and then having also lost Mehryn Kraker to injury during Saturday night's 48-point loss to the Knox Raiders.

Diamond Valley arrived in Ballarat having lost the previous night to the Bendigo Braves and it was a remarkably dominant first quarter with 35 points to eight from the Eagles.

Diamond Valley then produced another 31 points to 17 in the second quarter to go into half-time leading 66-25.

From there the Eagles ended up winning by 41 points to improve to 4-7 on the season with Gemma Potter finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and six assists in a stunning all-round display.

Abbey Ellis top-scored with 26 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals on 11/18 shooting from the floor and 3/6 from behind the three-point line.

Naomi Mbandu also had 13 points and nine rebounds for Diamond Valley, Allison Day 11 points and two boards, and Nikki Metcalfe 10 points and four rebounds.

Ballarat has now lost twice this weekend with a player drain to slip to a 5-7 record with Alex Bunton fighting against the odds for 20 points and 18 rebounds while Jemma Amoore contributed 14 points and four assists, and Ella Gordon nine points and six rebounds.

The Miners are now on the road to the Bendigo Braves this Saturday while Diamond Valley will host the Eltham Wildcats on Saturday.

Sandringham Sabres (84) defeated Bendigo Braves (82)

The Sandringham Sabres built up a 16-point second half lead and then held out the fast finishing Bendigo Braves for the 84-82 home victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Sabres were fresh off the win against the Frankston Blues the night before while the defending champion Braves also returned to the winner's list beating the Diamond Valley Eagles.

That set up their match up on Sunday at Southern Basketball Stadium and after the Sabres went up eight early in the game, the Braves responded to cut the quarter-time lead for the home side to 21-20.

It remained a tight affair the rest of the half with Sandringham leading 44-39 at the break but the Sabres then took charge in the third quarter completing a 12-0 scoring run to open up a game high 16-point lead.

Sandringham were still leading by seven points with 1:30 remaining but the Braves wouldn’t give up and when Amy Atwell knocked down a three-pointer 30 seconds later, it was back to a two-point ball game.

Eilidh Simpson and Emma Nankervis did combine for the last six points, though, for the Sabres and that enough to hold on to the two-point win to see them improve to a 10-2 record on the season with a 10th consecutive victory.

Nankervis ended up top-scoring with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists on shooting 8/12 from the field with Klara Wischer contributing 17 points, 14 boards and four assists, Eilidh Simpson 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Isis Lopes 11 points, three boards and three assists.

Bendigo is now 9-5 on the season having lost four of their past six games with Amy Atwell producing 33 points and three rebounds on 6/14 shooting from three-point territory.

Ally Wilson also had 18 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals, Kelly Wilson 14 points, four boards and four assists, and Cassidy McLean nine points, six steals and three rebounds.

The Sabres now don't play again until hosting the Ringwood Hawks on Thursday June 6 while Bendigo is at home to the Ballarat Miners this Saturday.

Eltham Wildcats (90) defeated Hobart Chargers (85)

The Eltham Wildcats made it a double win weekend with the 90-85 win at home against the Hobart Chargers.

Eltham opened their weekend back on Friday night with the impressive four-point win in Mount Gambier while Hobart came into Sunday's match up with the Saturday 16-point victory against the Casey Cavaliers to start their road double.

It was a high scoring opening to the contest with Hobart leading 31-25 by the end of the first quarter with the Chargers still holding the 51-47 advantage at half-time.

Eltham took over in the third quarter with 22 points to 15 but their lead was back to one in the final minute after a bucket for Hobart by Zoe Richards.

Hailey Leidel responded with the biggest shot of the afternoon to hit a three ball for the Wildcats and that saw them hold on for the five-point victory to make it a perfect weekend.

Eltham improves to a 6-6 record with the pair of Round 8 wins with Erin Riley ending up delivering 23 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

Hailey Leidel added 18 points, six assists and five rebounds, Taylah Wynne 16 points and two steals, Eleanor Trout 12 points and three rebounds, and Bec Pizzey 11 points, eight boards, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

The Chargers split their road double this weekend to now sit at a 4-9 record on the season with Cierra Walker delivering 25 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Kayla Steindl put up 23 points, five rebounds and three steals, Zoe Richards 21 points, six boards and four steals, and Jayda Jansen 11 points and eight assists.

The Wildcats are back in action on the road on Saturday to the Diamond Valley Eagles with the Chargers hosting the Launceston Tornadoes on Friday.

Waverley Falcons (80) defeated Launceston Tornadoes (63)

The Waverley Falcons made it consecutive victories with the 80-63 Sunday victory at home to the Launceston Tornadoes.

Waverley snapped a six-game losing streak with a win against the Kilsyth Cobras last Saturday as they attempted to back that up hosting the Tornadoes at Waverley Basketball Centre.

Launceston arrived attempting to bounce back from the Saturday loss to Geelong United and the Tornadoes did start well away from home to lead 15-13 by quarter-time.

But Waverley took over the contest in the second stanza with 29 points to 17 to go into the half-time break on top 42-32.

The Falcons were then able to continue to build on that lead throughout the second half with the lead growing to 15 points in the third quarter, and 19 in the fourth before they secured the 17-point triumph.

The victory sees Waverley improve to a 4-8 record on the season with the consecutive victories with Bec Cole producing 17 points, three assists and two steals.

Amelia Todhunter added 14 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists, Sophia Locandro 13 points and two boards, Carley Ernst 12 points and seven rebounds, and Orla O'Reilly 11 points, seven boards, six steals and three assists.

The Tornadoes are now 4-9 following the double loss weekend on the road with Lore Devos top-scoring once again with 19 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Trinity Oliver also had 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Sharna Appleby 11 points.

Waverley will now be on the road to the Nunawading Spectres on Saturday night with the Tornadoes to take on the Hobart Chargers in Hobart on Friday.

Ballarat Miners (99) defeated Diamond Valley Eagles (96)

The Ballarat Miners made it back-to-back three-point thrilling wins this weekend to return to top spot in the NBL1 South with the 99-96 victory at home to the Diamond Valley Eagles.

Ballarat scored the dramatic three-point win also on Saturday night over the Knox Raiders and they remained at home at Selkirk Stadium on Sunday playing host to a Diamond Valley team who lost in Bendigo the previous evening.

Scores were level at 24-24 by quarter-time but Diamond Valley worked on top in the second period to go into the half-time break leading 49-43.

The Eagles then completed an 11-0 scoring run during the third quarter to go out to a 15-point lead and the upset was right on the cards.

Diamond Valley were still leading by 12 points early in the fourth quarter but by five minutes to go in the game and Ballarat were back level after a pair of free throws to Tyler Rudolph.

A late Jock Perry three had Diamond Valley back within a point with 1:30 remaining but Ned Renfree replied with a bucket for Ballarat and they would go on to score the three-point win.

With the two three-point wins this weekend, Ballarat improves to a 9-3 record to sit in top spot with Tyler Rudolph producing another 34 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots on 14/24 shooting from the field and 3/4 from downtown.

Luke Rosendale added 13 points and five assists, Zac Dunmore 12 points, Ned Renfree 10 points, and Nick Stoddart 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Diamond Valley is now 2-9 on the season with three consecutive defeats with Jock Perry having a big night with 28 points and 14 rebounds.

Bryton Hobbs added 21 points and three assists, Erik Kafritsas 19 points and three assists, and BJ Symons 14 points and six rebounds.

The Miners are now on the road to the Bendigo Braves this Saturday while Diamond Valley will host the Eltham Wildcats on Saturday.

Sandringham Sabres (89) defeated Bendigo Braves (65)

The Sandringham Sabres continued their ominous form with the 89-65 home victory on Sunday against the Bendigo Braves.

The Sabres made quite the statement the previous evening with the 24-point win on the road to the Frankston Blues ahead of hosting the Braves at Southern Basketball Stadium on Sunday.

Bendigo arrived fresh off a home win against the Diamond Valley Eagles on Saturday too but the Sabres didn’t take long to take charge of the contest.

Sandringham were already leading 33-12 by the end of the opening quarter with that lead growing to 29 in the second frame and the Sabres were on top 53-26 at the half-time interval.

From there Sandringham closed out the job in the second half for the 24-point victory to make it five wins in-a-row and to improve to an 8-4 record on the season.

Shea Ili was again outstanding for the Sabres with the Melbourne United star producing 21 points, three rebounds and three assists in his 25 minutes of court time.

Ned Dillon added 15 points and six rebounds for Sandringham, CJ Asuncion-Byrd 14 points and four boards, Joel Foxwell 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Declan Soukup 12 points and three boards.

Bendigo is now 6-8 on the season having split their two games this weekend with Rowan Mackenzie again top-scoring with 15 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.

Billy Smythe added 12 points and five rebounds, Mitch Clarke 11 points and three boards, and Koch Bar 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Sabres now don't play again until hosting the Ringwood Hawks on Thursday June 6 while Bendigo is at home to the Ballarat Miners this Saturday.

Eltham Wildcats (74) lost to Hobart Chargers (85)

The Hobart Chargers continued their strong recent form to deliver a dominant second half to beat the Eltham Wildcats 85-74 away from home.

Both teams were coming off wins to start the weekend with Eltham winning in Mount Gambier on Friday night while Hobart started their road double beating the Casey Cavaliers by a solitary point the previous evening.

That set up a fascinating contest on Sunday at Montmorency Secondary College with the home team getting the better of the start with Eltham out to a 24-16 advantage by quarter-time.

The Wildcats were still leading 45-39 at half-time but then the Chargers turned the tide in the third quarter with 24 points to 11 to end up leading by as much as 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Hobart would end up scoring the 11-point victory to improve to an 8-5 record with Vionte Daniels delivering 22 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Ole Angerstein added 18 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots with Jordan Straatsma contributing 15 points, two boards and two assists, and Jacob Richards 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Eltham slips to 6-6 on the season having split their two games this weekend with Angus Glover knocking down 5/13 from three-point territory on his way to 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Ralph Bissainthe added 16 points, six rebounds and two assists, Josh Sykes 11 points and five boards, and Owen Foxwell seven points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals.

The Wildcats are back in action on the road on Saturday to the Diamond Valley Eagles with the Chargers hosting the North West Tasmania Thunder on Friday.

Waverley Falcons (117) defeated North West Tasmania Thunder (77)

The Waverley Falcons produced quite the dominant performance with DJ Vasiljevic and Maurice Howard combining for 44 points in the 117-77 home win over the North West Tasmania Thunder.

Waverley were playing its first game since beating the Kilsyth Cobras last Saturday night while it was a second road game of the weekend for North West Tasmania following the win against Geelong United.

It was a horror opening to the afternoon for the Thunder with the Falcons going on an 18-0 scoring run to lead by 22 points and with the visitors losing Tre Armstrong for the rest of the afternoon in that stretch.

Waverley would lead 34-15 by the end of the first quarter before still being on control leading 51-38 by half-time.

It was then an even more dominant second half from the Falcons with 27 points to 16 in the third quarter, and 39 to 23 in the fourth for them to end up securing the 40-point victory.

It makes it five wins in-a-row for Waverley who improve to an 8-4 record on the season with DJ Vasiljevic producing 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Maurice Howard also had 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals on 4/8 three-point shooting with Matthew McCarthy contributing 15 points and five boards, Mason Forbes 16 points and four rebounds, Malik Meunier 12 points and six assists, and Dexter Kernich-Drew 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.

North West Tasmania is now 6-7 on the season following the defeat with Sekou Sylla finishing with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Archer Woodhill added 16 points and eight rebounds, Isaac Atuer 14 points and two assists, and Jake Afoa nine points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Waverley will now be on the road to the Nunawading Spectres on Saturday night with the Thunder to take on the Hobart Chargers in Hobart on Friday.
