NBL1 South congratulates Melbourne Tigers head coach Andrew Gaze on being elevated to ‘Legend’ status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, the highest individual honour in Australian sport.
Gaze, one of the most iconic figures in Australian basketball, joins his father Lindsay in the elite group, cementing a family legacy that has shaped the game for generations. A five-time Olympian, four-time World Cup representative and 297-game Boomer, Gaze’s playing career is unmatched. Across 22 NBL seasons with the Melbourne Tigers he won two championships, claimed seven league MVP awards, and remains the all-time leading scorer. The league’s MVP trophy proudly carries his name.
Today, Gaze’s legacy continues in NBL1 South. He remains at the helm of the Melbourne Tigers men’s program, coaching alongside his son Mason and leading the club to a Grand Final appearance earlier this month. His impact as a coach has been recognised across the league, with Gaze named a shortlisted finalist for the 2025 NBL1 South Coach of the Year award. His passion for developing the next generation of Tigers talent and giving back to the club where his journey began speaks volumes about his lifelong commitment to the game.
The elevation will be formally celebrated at the 40th Sport Australia Hall of Fame Gala in Melbourne on November 17.
On behalf of the NBL1 South community, we congratulate Andrew on this richly deserved recognition and thank him for his ongoing leadership in our competition.
