Josh Sykes, the most entertaining player in the league is back for the Eltham Wildcats in the 2022 NBL1 South season. His high-flying dunks and incredible shot blocking ability make him a walking highlight film and must watch entertainment for the whole family.
The Californian native amazed the Wildcat faithful in 2018 with his unreal aerial display in the Big V State Championship Men’s competition then once again in 2019 when he lit up the inaugural NBL1 South season averaging 14.4ppg, 7.7rpg and 2.5 blocks per game.
The Athletic Power Forward is exactly what the Wildcats need to compete both on and off the court says Coach Craig Stratford.
“It’s exciting to have a high-level athlete and a quality person like Josh both playing again at Eltham and in back our community. The experience he has added playing professionally in other leagues over the past two years will be really important for our young group. Josh is an athletic forward who’s skill set will fit well with the young talent that he will have around him.”
The Wildcats family culture and environment was a strong drawcard for Sykes’s return in 2022.
“Feels like I’m back home again and I’m glad to be back.
“I’m looking forward to a competitive season. We have familiar and new faces in the group, and I can’t wait to see what the brotherhood will bring this year. Go Wildcats! Sykes said.”
You can see Josh and our Wildcat teams in action when the 2022 NBL1 South season tips off on April 23rd against the Nunawading Spectres at Nunawading Basketball Centre.

The NBL1 represents the highest level achievable for players, coaches, technical officials and game day staff in the Eltham Wildcats pathway. It provides individuals in the north-east of Melbourne with a chance to be exposed to the national leagues. The Eltham Wildcats aim to have teams that strongly represent the north-east of Melbourne and players who’ve come through the Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA).
