JackJumpers Junior Madut and Majok Deng return ahead of NBL Blitz
Junior Madut and Majok Deng have returned to the Tasmania JackJumpers fold after being a part of history at the FIBA World Cup.
The pair represented South Sudan in the Philippians where the nation capped off its first world cup win with an inaugural qualification for the Olympics in Paris next year. "When I was growing up South Sudan didn't have a basketball team so it means a lot," Madut said. "This was probably the most positive representation our country has had for a while and it feels amazing to be a part of that. I learned a lot. It's hard to pin point exactly but I think just being around high level coaches and players, it's helped me on an individual level."
The 26-year-old returns to the state ahead of the NBL pre-season Blitz on the Gold Coast, with the JackJumpers playing their first game against South East Melbourne Phoenix on Saturday, September 16. Madut, who previously played for the Phoenix, said he has already turned his focus to the season ahead. "Today is about coming in trying to make that transition and adapt quickly. I came from somewhat of a vacation and celebrating qualifying for the Olympics, so now it's all about focusing on the season," he said. "I'm super excited especially for the fact it's on the Gold Coast. I can't wait to get out there to compete, it's going to be good to compete against someone else. We are looking to see where we are as a team, how we are going to play this season and just go out there, compete and have fun."
The JackJumpers will officially begin their season on Friday, September 29 against Perth Wildcats.
