As part of the 2025 NBL1 First Nations Round, Keilor Thunder have proudly unveiled their First Nations uniform—featuring a powerful and deeply personal artwork titled ‘Marndar’, meaning ‘Thunder’ in the Wemba Wemba language.
The design was created by proud Yorta Yorta artist Emma Bamblett and her daughter Jamison, a member of Keilor’s 16.1 Girls team. Emma and Jamison recently joined the Thunder senior players to share the meaning behind the artwork, the significance of NAIDOC Week, and their own cultural experiences.
‘Marndar’ tells the story of Keilor Thunder’s ongoing journey to learn, grow, and celebrate Aboriginal cultures and peoples. The large red circles connected by curved lines represent community and connection. Hill and stream formations speak to the many mobs coming together, while arrows reflect growth and moving forward together. The repeated white lines represent thunder itself—each line a symbol of the players, coaches, staff, volunteers, and families that make up the Thunder community.
