As the Albury Wodonga Bandits embark on a new era in NBL1 East, Haydn Kirkwood has been named as the man to lead their men's side forward.
Kirkwood has spent the last six years as an assistant coach with both the Bandits' men's and women's teams and will now fill the main spot, vacated by club great Brad Chalmers.
He also coached the Victoria Country Women's Under 18 side this year.
Bandits president Luke Smith told The Border Mail that Kirkwood was deserving of the role.
"It's like he has done his apprenticeship and is now ready and raring to go," Smith said.
"He very much lives and breathes basketball.
"It will be great to see how he goes."
