 Mirko Djeric

171 NBL game veteran Mirko Djeric has signed with the NBL1 Central champions, the West Adelaide Bearcats, for the 2024 season.

Last playing for the Cairns Taipans in the 2022-2023 season, he suited up for 15 games for the Finals team.

Djeric last played in the NBL1 in 2022 with the Cairns Marlins, where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

He told the Bearcats he is excited to play in South Australia.

“I’m excited to get to Adelaide and represent the West Adelaide Bearcats in 2024,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting to work with my teammates in the coming months.”

Gabe Hadley

Brisbane Bullets guard Gabe Hadley will stay in Brisbane in the offseason and join Greg Vanderjagt on the Brisbane Capitals for the 2024 NBL1 North season.

Last season in the NBL1 South, he averaged 24.7 points – finishing second in points per game and was named to the NBL1 South All-Star Five as a result.

Bullets assistant coach Vanderjagt signed on as the Capital's head coach early in the offseason and using his connections, he’ll now bring a talented Bullet to the squad – stating he’s excited to add an elite scorer in Hadley.

“Adding a player of Gabe Hadley’s calibre to our roster is a huge coup for the team and organisation. He’s a proven performer at the NBL1 level and one of the best scorers in the nation,” he said.

“His ability to play on the ball to create his own shot as well as off the ball as a floor spacer will add another dimension to our offence this season. Not only is Gabe an elite player, but he also fits the characteristics of the type of people we want in our program.

“A first-class teammate and member of our community, he will be an enormous asset to the Brisbane Capitals. I’m excited to continue working with Gabe this season and help guide his constant growth as a more complete player at both ends of the floor.”

East Banner

Ashlee Hannan

The star on the rise and current Perth Lynx forward Ashlee Hannan will return to the Albury-Wodonga Bandits for the 2024 NBL1 East season.

The 22-year-old forward averaged 13.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks for the Bandits last season, as one of the go-to players for the then-defending champions.

She’ll be coming off her debut season in the WNBL and will then suit up alongside the GOAT, Lauren Jackson. Forming one of the best frontcourts in the entire NBL1 for the 2024 season.

She told the Bandits she cannot not wait to return to Albury for the 2024 season.

"I'm ecstatic to be rejoining the Bandits in 2024!,” she said.

“I had such an amazing experience with the club last year and I can't wait to get to work and see what we can do this season!"

Tahlia Tupaea

New Zealand national team member Tahlia Tupaea has re-signed with the Penrith Panthers for the 2024 NBL1 East season.

Joining her local club during their inaugural season in 2023, Tupaea had an outstanding campaign averaging 23 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Panthers last year.

She had a season-high of 45 points against the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, showing her WNBL prowess against the next generation of stars in the country.

Tupaea missed an extended stretch during the season in preparation for the Women’s Asia Cup, with New Zealand – finishing with a fourth-place finish against Australia. During the tournament, she averaged 7.8 points, three rebounds and 2.2 assists for the Tall Ferns.

She’ll be joined by Dominika Faber, Chloe Williams and head coach Neil Offner for the 2024 season.
