Marianna Tolo signs with the Launceston Tornadoes

Australian Opals star, and three-time WNBL champion Marianna Tolo will join the Launceston Tornadoes in NBL1 South for the remainder of the season.

She joins Opals teammate Keely Froling in Tasmania after a successful stint in France with the Basket Landes. She will debut for Launceston this weekend in their double header against the Frankston Blues on Saturday and the Melbourne Tigers on Sunday.

Tolo said her friendship with Froling and Kelsey Griffin were a key part of her signing. 

“I'd heard great things from both Keely and Kelsey about Launceston and the great experience they had playing there,” she said.

“When they floated the idea of coming down to Tassie to play with them I had to stop and consider it. It's not often you get the opportunity to play with some of your best mates.

“I'm also looking forward to helping Launceston to win some games in their quest for the NBL1 South title. It's a tough competition but I believe we have the ability to do well.

“I haven't really had the chance to spend much time in Tassie, apart from my first U16s Nationals back in 2003. So I'm looking forward to seeing a little more of the area.”
