The Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants are pleased to announce the return of Majier Garang III to the men’s side ahead of the 2023 NBL1 West season.
Garang previously played for the Giants in 2020 before playing for Joondalup Wolves and Lakeside Lightning.
The centre finished off the 2022 season with Lakeside averaging 6.9ppg, 1.3apg and 6.3rpg.
On why he is returning, he said he missed the culture of the club.
“I missed hanging out with some of my brothers here – a bunch of the guys, but Mayo in particular,” he said.
“It was a great the first year I was here but obviously I had family (matters) and had to move home otherwise I would have been here the whole year – it is good to be back, it feels like home.”
Head coach Scott Manton said the player brings versatility and “much needed depth in the big man department”.
“He has fitted in very nicely to the team and I've been impressed with his development on and off court,” he said.
“He feels at home in Kalgoorlie and I'm looking forward to him showcasing his talents and maturity this season.”
Garang said preseason training is going well so far.
"It's different compared to Creeky but I don’t mind the change – I don’t mind the challenge of being a top four team like the guys are planning,” he said.
“I'm looking forward to the season, season starting and hopefully being in the championship for the first time.
“Goal is top four, I mean, goal is always championship but yeah top four would be great – I haven’t been top four since my rookie season.”
Preseason training has ramped up as we lead into the final weeks before season tip off on April 1.
