First Nations Round of NBL1 Central Friday evening provided an entrée to the basketball weekend with a deadly back-to-back triple double, a Maverick upset, another 40 point plus haul and a rampage that might have saved a finals campaign…

Wilson produces deadly back-to-back triple doubles.

First Nations Ngarrindjeri Woman Ally Wilson produced back-to-back triple doubles with another 22 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in her Flames fifth win in a row 93-76 over flying finals contender the Forestville Eagles at the ARC. She was ably supported by Sharna Thompson with 22 points with four triples and Sophie Kerridge who nearly joined Wilson off the bench with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Maddy Freer was electric in the first half with 14 points but was grounded in the second to finish with 16 points and seven rebounds - Jess Simons took over proceedings with 20 points and ten rebounds to be the best for the away side.     

Otto’s empire as Mavs upset Rockets at St Francis

Eastern Mavericks Jannon Otto compiled an empirical stat line again of 20 points, 16 rebounds and three assists to topple the North Adelaide Rockets 76-74 for their third win in a row (a feat they have not achieved since their third placed finish in 2019) at St Francis. Otto did not finish the game but had plenty of help to finalise the result with Olivia Bradley dropping in on the second half with 23 points and nine rebounds and four assists while Stephanie Formby achieved her first career double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rockets found the going tough against the young Mavs with Brooke Basham giving them momentum early with 21 points, five assists and three rebounds with Jordyn Freer fire up in the second half to clock 17 points and eight rebounds – while quiet through the evening Lauren Mansfield still nearly managed a double double with 13 points and nine assists.       

Mays night can’t overcome outstanding De-Lycett Flames

It was an epic haul from Greg Mays as he grabbed the third 40 plus point game of the season and eighth since the NBL1 Central commenced with a mammoth 42 points, four rebound and three assists – but his Eagles couldn’t fly over the finish line as they were upset by the fiery Norwood Flames 100-98 in a thriller at the ARC.

2015 Woollacott medallist Matt Lycett turned back the clock again with a 27 point, five assist and four rebound effort backed up by stat stuffing Trey McBride with 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Mays for the Eagles got some help in the second half from Jake Rios with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists while Adam Doyle (10 points and nine assists) and Brad Rathjen (13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists) were quelled but solid again.  

 

Rockets rampage over fading Mavs keeps finals hopes alive heading into weekend

Led by Koop McCalop and Durrell McDonald – the North Adelaide Rockets blew away the inform Eastern Mavericks to secure an important win 64-94 at St Francis. McCalop put a nice stat line together with 27 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks while McDonald produced another near triple double nugget with 17 points, eight assists and rebounds.

Jack Hemphill is finishing the season on a good note with another 20 points and eight rebound effort with star James Legan (16 points, five assists and four rebounds) keeping the Mav in the contest till halftime – Lengudi Gur also produced another quality performance with 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
