Round 9 of the 2023 NBL1 East Season will celebrate & acknowledge all Australian women and men affected by breast cancer in the theme of ‘Pink’ Round.
The weekend of the 13th & 14th of May, which also coincides with Mother's Day on Sunday the 14th, will see the league turned pink - with all players wearing special charity socks and pink or black warm-up shirts for both the men’s & women’s divisions. The officials will also be involved, with all referees across the round using a special pink whistle.
The Albury Wodonga Bandits will don a specially designed uniform for Pink Round to highlight the significance of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Teams from across NBL1 South, NBL1 Central, NBL1 West & NBL1 North will also show their support, with pink to be highlighted in stadiums across the country.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women; with one in seven diagnosed in their lifetime. Over 20,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year as well as over 170 men. Being told you have breast cancer changes lives in an instant and has a ripple effect through families, workplaces, sporting clubs and the community.
Basketball NSW, CEO, Maria Nordstrom expressed her appreciation of the league supporting the message of the round.
"Breast cancer affects so many of us here in Australia and here at NBL1 East we look forward to doing what we can to help raise awareness and provide continued much needed funds for this terrible disease," said Nordstrom.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to all our teams & fans who will be supporting Pink Round as we inform, support, connect and represent all Australians affected by breast cancer.”
