NBL1 East Recap | Saturday Men's Round 12
Round 12 in the NBL1 East Men's competition on Saturday night saw wins for the Bankstown Bruins, Inner West Bulls, Newcastle Falcons, Norths Bears, Maitland Mustangs and Canberra Gunners.

Round 12 in the NBL1 East Men's competition on Saturday night saw wins for the Bankstown Bruins, Inner West Bulls, Newcastle Falcons, Norths Bears, Maitland Mustangs and Canberra Gunners.
Round 12 in the NBL1 East got underway on Saturday evening with the Bankstown Bruins winning at home 91-85 against the Sutherland Sharks.
Lachlan Anderson delivered 29 points with four triples for the Bruins while Lochlan Hutchison finished with 26 points and seven assists for the Sharks.
The Inner West Bulls put together a strong showing on their home court to defeat the Albury-Wodonga Bandits to win 107-91.
Chier Maker put up 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Bulls while Lochlan Cummings top-scored for the Bandits with 20 points.
The Maitland Mustangs overcame a quarter-time deficit on their home floor to the Central Coast Crusaders before ending up winning 81-70.
Matthew Gray finished with 19 points for Maitland with Will Cranston adding 17 points and seven rebounds with James Trustum delivering 22 points for the Crusaders.
The Norths Bears fought hard to end up overcoming the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at home on Saturday and winning 69-60.
Brennan Rymer led the charge for the Bears with 22 points and four assists with Steven White putting up 21 points and four assists for the Sea Eagles.
The Newcastle Falcons were able to keep their winning form going as well by beating the Illawarra Hawks 78-66.
Myles Cherry finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for Newcastle in the win with Ryan Beisty adding 14 points and 16 boards. Philip Dopud delivering 14 points and 10 rebounds for Illawarra.
The Canberra Gunners then came away with a 102-79 win against the Hills Hornets on the way of a dominant 33-point to 19 fourth quarter.
Will Mayfield finished with 27 points for Canberra, Glenn Morison 21 and Akech Aliir 20. AJ Ogilvy put up 18 points and six rebounds for the Hornets.
There are two more matches on Sunday to wrap up Round 12 in the NBL1 East with the Hills Hornets hosting the Inner West Bulls and the Maitland Mustangs hosting the Illawarra Hawks.

BANKSTOWN BRUINS 91 defeated SUTHERLAND SHARKS 85
The Bankstown Bruins delivered their third victory of the NBL1 East season at home on Saturday night beating the Sutherland Sharks by six points.
The Bruins were at home to the Sharks on Saturday night at Bankstown Basketball Stadium and they started on fire with a 13-0 run early on to open up a 14-point lead in no time.
However, the Sharks responded with 14 points of their own in a dramatic opening quarter and by quarter-time it was Sutherland leading 19-17.
The momentum swings continued in the second period and by the end of it the Bruins had managed to outscore the Sharks 19 points to 16 to lead 36-35 going into the half-time interval.
Bankstown then really turned it on in style in the third quarter piling on 35 points to 26 from the Sharks and that saw the home team head into three quarter-time leading 71-63.
The Bruins were able to capitalise on that for the eventual 91-85 victory to improve to 3-11 on the season by the end of Round 12 while the Sharks are 6-7.
Lachlan Anderson was the star of proceedings for Bankstown with 29 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals while shooting 12/19 from the field and 4/7 from three-point territory.
Nathaniel Brown added 20 points for the Bruins, Dragan Elkaz 15 points and four rebounds, and Jack Lopez 10 points and five boards.
Lochlan Hutchison finished with 26 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals with Archer Woodhill contributing 17 points and 12 boards, Geoff Gerlach 16 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Nick Feng nine points.
INNER WEST BULLS 107 defeated ALBURY-WODONGA BANDITS 91
The Inner West Bulls produced an impressive showing to beat the Albury-Wodonga Bandits at home by 16 points on Saturday night.
The Bulls were at home at ELS Hall Park to the Bandits in Round 12 NBL1 East action and it was a high-scoring and entertaining opening quarter with the home team leading 29-26 by quarter-time.
Inner West opened up a double-figure advantage during the second quarter and went into the half-time break leading 55-45.
The Bandits threw everything at the third quarter, though, and ended up outscoring the Bulls 28 points to 21 to cut it to a three-point ball game going into the fourth term.
The game might have been on the line at three quarter-time, but the Bulls then blew it wide open with 31 points to 18 in the fourth term to end up winning 107-91.
The victory improves the Bulls to an 8-6 record on the season after Round 12 while the Bandits slip to 8-6 too with the defeat.
Chier Maker finished the night for Inner West with 25 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while knocking down 3/5 from three-point land.
Alex Higgins-Titsha added 16 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists, Reggie Ridlen 15 points, four boards and three assists, Chol Adup 15 points and three rebounds, Jasper Rentoy 10 points and three boards, and Kaylan Bayer 10 points and three assists.
Lochlan Cummings ended the night with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists for Albury-Wodonga with Hamish Warden contributing 16 points and seven boards, Duom Dawam 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, Jason Carter 13 points, and Kieran Hayward 13 points.
NEWCASTLE FALCONS 78 defeated ILLAWARRA HAWKS 66
The Newcastle Falcons had to come from behind at three quarter-time but delivered a terrific last quarter to beat the Illawarra Hawks by 12 points.
The Falcons were at home to the Hawks on Saturday night at Newcastle Basketball Stadium but for three quarters it was a tight contest.
Newcastle led by just the point at quarter-time before narrowly stretching that advantage out to 34-30 by the main break.
Illawarra worked its way on top during the third period with 26 points to 21 and the Hawks held the slight 56-55 lead.
However, it was then all Newcastle in the last term as they piled on 23 points to 10 to end up winning 78-66.
As a result of the win, the Falcons improve to a 10-3 record on the season to sit on top of the NBL1 East standings while the Hawks are now 8-6 following the defeat.
The Falcons outrebounded the Hawks 46 to 36 for the game while also forced Illawarra into 18 turnover and got to the foul line for 39 free-throw attempts compared with 20.
Myles Cherry ended up top-scoring for Newcastle with 21 points to go with seven rebounds with Matur Maluach contributing 16 points and five boards, and Ryan Beisty 14 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three steal and two blocks.
Jakob Dorricott also had 14 points and three steals for the Falcons and Tom Dawson seven points and 10 rebounds.
Phil Dopud top-scored for Illawarra with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists with Harry Morris adding 11 points and six boards, Fletcher MacDonald 10 points and seven rebounds, and Patrick Lancaster nine points and five boards.
NORTHS BEARS 69 defeated MANLY-WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES 60
The Norths Bears had to work hard to end up overcoming the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles by nine points at home on Saturday night.
The Bears played host to the Sea Eagles at North Sydney Indoor Sports Centre and the home team started well with 15 points to 11 in the opening quarter.
Manly-Warringah continued to stay in touch, though, and went on a 6-0 run during the second quarter and that limited the Norths lead to 31-29 at half-time.
It was still just a two-point ball game heading into the fourth quarter before the Bears overpowered the Sea Eagles in the last term with 21 points to 14 including going on a 7-0 run to secure the eventual 69-60 victory.
The result improves the Bears to a 7-6 record on the NBL1 East season by the end of Round 12 while Manly-Warringah are 5-10.
Brennan Rymer delivered 22 points and four assists in the win for the Bears while Patrick Sanders contributed 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Michael Golding added seven points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, and Michael Yoong seven points, seven boards and two assists.
Steven White finished with 21 points and four assists with 4/8 from three-point land for the Sea Eagles with Indiana Faithful adding 15 points and three assists, and Zack Kimball seven points and 10 rebounds.
MAITLAND MUSTANGS 81 defeated CENTRAL COAST CRUSADERS 70
The Maitland Mustangs gradually worked their way on top of the Central Coast Crusaders on Saturday night to end up winning by 11 points.
The Mustangs were at home to the Crusaders at Maitland Federation Centre and it was the visiting Central Coast who led 19-17 by the end of the first quarter.
Maitland was able to turn that around in the second term going on an 8-0 run to end up outscoring the Crusaders 24 points to 18 to end up leading 41-37 at the long break.
The Mustangs saw that advantage grow to double-figures during the third quarter and then it was as much as 14 in the fourth term before going on to beat the Crusaders 81-70.
The victory improves Maitland to an 8-6 record on the season by the end of Round 12 in the NBL1 East while Central Coast is 5-9.
Despite losing the game, the Crusaders collected 53 rebounds for the game compared with 41 for Maitland including 19 at the offensive end to go with just nine from the home team.
However, the Crusaders did have 20 turnovers to 12 and the Mustangs ended up shooting 44.9 per cent from the floor compared with 36.0 per cent from Central Coast. Maitland also had 26 free-throws to 18 from Central Coast.
Matthew Gray finished with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots for the Mustangs with Will Cranston-Lown adding 17 points and seven boards, Daniel Millburn nine points and six rebounds, James Hunter nine points, and Billy Parsons nine points.
James Trustum finished the night with 22 points and five rebounds for the Crusaders while Callum Jenkins contributed 19 points and 14 boards, Oliver Robilliard 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jacob Cracknell 11 points, five boards and three assists.
HILLS HORNETS 79 lost to CANBERRA GUNNERS 102
The Canberra Gunners showed their firepower on Saturday night on the road with an eventual 23-point victory against the Hills Hornets.
The Hornets were at home to the Gunners at Hills Basketball Stadium and the home team started strongly to lead 23-22 by the end of the first quarter.
However, Canberra took over in the second quarter outscoring the Hornets 28 points to 14 and that saw them head into half-time leading 50-37.
The Hornets made a game of it again in the third quarter, though, and by three quarter-time had brought that deficit back down to nine points.
They couldn’t keep it going, though, with the Gunners delivering a dominant fourth quarter with 33 points to 19 to end up winning 102-79.
The victory improves Canberra to a 10-4 record on the season to be sitting second in the NBL1 East while the Hornets slip to 6-10 following the defeat.
The Gunners shot the ball at 51.4 per cent for the game and nailed 14/30 from downtown with Will Mayfield putting up 27 points to go with seven rebounds while hitting 5/9 from beyond the arc.
Glenn Morison added 21 points and 13 rebounds for Canberra, Akech Aliir 20 points, James Toohey 11 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds, and Max Cooper eight points.
Illawarra Hawks NBL captain AJ Ogilvy produced 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks for the Hornets with Liam Moss contributing 14 points, five blocks and four steals, Paul Brotherson 11 points and six rebounds, and Ben Kearins nine points and four assists.
