A very close day of basketball to end round 4 of NBL1East, with three of the four games settled by less than five points.
Of course, these came with the usual levels of outstanding play, as all teams truly start to get a sense of who they are.
Check out how the games went below.
WOMEN
Hills Hornets (82) def by Illawarra Hawks (106)
This was a statement win from the Hawks, putting 106 points in a 24-point victory against the Hornets.
Paris Roditis and Alana Goodchild combined for 51 points for Hills, but that wasn’t enough to stop the offensive onslaught from the Hawks, with six separate players in double figures.
HILLS 82 (Roditis 26, Goodchild 25, Mahoney 16)
ILLAWARRA 106 (Abel 21, Ohrdorf 19, Scaife 18)
Canberra Nationals (59) def by Newcastle Falcons (60)
This game was as close as you could possibly get, with Megan Johnson hitting the game-winning three with six seconds to spare.
Lizzy Tonks was solid as always - 22 points and 11 rebounds - but again depth hurt Canberra, with only one other player even able to reach 10 points.
For Newcastle, Kingham and Evans were the standouts, with Johnson able to come up big in the clutch.
CANBERRA 59 (Tonks 22, Lyall 10, Solway 8)
NEWCASTLE 60 (Kingham 16, Evans 15, Foy 10)
MEN
Illawarra Hawks (92) def by Hills Hornets (97)
While the women’s matchup between these two was a blowout, Hills men made sure to take revenge, outlasting Illawarra to win by five points.
Liam Moss led Hills, with 28 points on 58.8% from the field.
But despite the loss, it was the Hawks’ Kiwi Gardner who was far-and-away the best on the court, scoring a jaw-dropping 41 points, to go along with seven assists.
ILLAWARRA 92 (Gardner 41, Morris 14, MacDonald and Massimino 11)
HILLS 97 (Moss 28, Brotherson 12, Fidel 11)
Canberra Gunners (65) def by Newcastle Falcons (68)
The tight contests just kept coming today, with Newcastle barely able to hold on against an in-form Canberra team.
Canberra had four separate players hit double figures, but it was the play of Newcastle’s Maluach and Cherry that got the Falcons the win.
CANBERRA 65 (Mayfield 15, Fieg 12, Aliir and Morison 10)
NEWCASTLE 68 (Cherry 22, Maluach 20, Mason 7)
