NBL1 North Recap | Saturday Women's Quarter Finals

The top four teams in the Women's NBL1 North competition have all advanced to the semi finals with quarter-final wins on Saturday night for the Logan Thunder, Southern Districts Spartans, Townsville Flames and Brisbane Capitals.

The top four teams in the Women's NBL1 North competition have all advanced to the semi finals with quarter-final wins on Saturday night for the Logan Thunder, Southern Districts Spartans, Townsville Flames and Brisbane Capitals.

The quarter finals action got under on Saturday evening at Rowland Cowan Stadium with the second placed Southern Districts Spartans proving too strong for the seventh placed USC Rip City, winning 93-59.

Leah Scott was phenomenal for the Spartans with 35 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals with Liisa Ups top-scoring for Rip City with 14 points.

Next up was the battle at Auchenflower Stadium with the fourth placed Brisbane Capitals finishing all over the top of the Northside Wizards in the second half for the 81-66 victory.

Courtney Middap delivered 19 points and eight rebounds for the Caps, Abby Cubillo 17 points and eight assists, and Steph Collins 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Shyla Heal did all she could to lift the Wizards with 23 points while Tiana Mangakahia had 11 points and 11 assists.

The undefeated Logan Thunder stamped their authority on their clash early against the Cairns Dolphins in the quarter-final match on their way to the 90-62 victory to make it 20 straight wins in 2022.

Mikaela Ruef had another 13 points and 15 rebounds for Logan while Ashley Taia scored 21 points and Sigi Koizar 20.

Penina Davidson finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Cains, and Cayla George 14 points, 13 boards and seven assists.

The Townsville Flames then also proved too good for the Mackay Meteorettes at Townsville StarFM Stadium, winning their quarter-final battle 97-77.

Courtney Woods was on fire again for the Flames with 32 points while hitting eight three-pointers with Steph Reid putting up 18 points and 10 assists, and Mia Murray 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Alisia Jenkins capped her tremendous second half to the season for Mackay with another 23 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The quarter-final results set up two mouth-watering semi finals now next Saturday with spots in the Grand Final on the line with the Logan Thunder hosting the Brisbane Capitals, and the Southern Districts Spartans taking on the Townsville Flames.
