ROUND 3 – FRIDAY NIGHT

HOBART CHARGERS 57 lost to KILSYTH COBRAS 75

The Kilsyth Cobras proved too strong for the still winless Hobart Chargers in the NBL1 South Women's action on Friday night.

The Friday night contest at Kingborough was the only game of the evening to open Round 3 of the 2022 season and the Chargers weren’t quite able to open their account for the campaign on their home floor.

Kilsyth headed south looking to bounce back from a loss at home to the Casey Cavaliers last Saturday night, but they didn’t have it all their own way early just managing to lead 16-14 by the end of the first quarter.

The Cobras were then able to pull away a little further with 17 points to 10 in the first quarter to lead 33-24 by the half-time break.

Hobart continued to make a game of it in the third quarter to stay in touch but Kilsyth was able to pull away in the fourth quarter with 18 points to 10 to come away with the eventual 75-57 victory.

The result sees the Cobras improve to 2-2 on the season while the Chargers are now 0-3.

Despite the result, it was the Chargers who the ball better at 42.3 per cent from the field and going 7/16 from downtown opposed to 40.2 per cent and 2/18 from Kilsyth. However, the Cobras took 30 extra field goals on the back of 15 offensive rebounds and forcing Hobart into 29 turnovers.

Isia Lopes finished with 13 points and three rebounds for Kilsyth with Georgia Booth contributing 13 points, Sarah Haberfield 12 points, four rebounds and four steals, Abigail Curtin 11 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals, and Lauren Scherf 10 points and 12 boards fresh off her WNBL Grand Final campaign with the Perth Lynx.

Sharna Thompson knocked down 25 points on 5/10 shooting from downtown for the Chargers with Angela Tompkins contributing 18 points, 12 boards and four assists.
