MOUNT GAMBIER PIONEERS 82 defeated GEELONG SUPERCATS 79

It took until the end of overtime for the Mount Gambier Pioneers to snatch a win at home on the buzzer against the Geelong Supercats to open Round 5 of the NBL1 South season.

The Pioneers were back at home at The Ice House hosting the Supercats and with Cassandra Brown on fire early, the home team started on fire and were leading 22-15 by the end of the opening quarter.

Geelong was able to work back into the contest with 24 points to 20 but it was still Mount Gambier leading 44-39.

The scoring dried up for the home team in the third quarter and scores were all tied by three quarter-time, and it stayed close the rest of the way.

After Brown put Mount Gambier on top 72-69 with a minute to play, it was a triple for Geelong from Jessica Scannell that tied scores up and that's how things stayed by the end of regulation.

Then in overtime, the Supercats scored the first six points courtesy of Scannell, Taylah Simmons and Sara Blicavs. Sherrie Calleia hit back for the Pioneers with a triple to keep the home team in touch and then coming down to the last possession, scores were again level at 79-79.

It came down to Calleia driving and then dishing out to the open Shakera Reilly in the corner, and she delivered the buzzer-beating three-point bomb to break the deadlock and give the Pioneers the 82-79 victory as time expired.
