Hobart Chargers 84 def Diamond Valley Eagles 68
In a battle featuring two of the league’s four winless teams, the Hobart Chargers have come away with the victory at home against the Diamond Valley Eagles.
It was a tight matchup across the first two quarters, with both teams trading the lead.
Despite pulling ahead to close the first term, Hobart were matched by the Eagles, which strung together some nice passages of play in the second quarter to take the lead going into half time.
Hayley Sparks showed her aggressiveness for Diamond Valley, staying active on the inside to get to the free-throw line seven times en route to 19 points.
After the main breaks however, it all started to go the Chargers’ way, as its stars shined and its defence stifled the Eagles into constant turnovers.
Ellie Collins led Hobart in scoring, tallying 34 points to go along with 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks.
Collins was supported by star guard Madeleine Garrick, who, despite poor shooting from behind the arc, still contributed 23 points to help the Chargers pull away in the second half.
Hobart outscored Diamond Valley 48-28 over the final two quarters to secure the comfortable victory.
