The Ringwood Hawks are stuck on the bottom end of the NBL1 South men’s ladder, gasping for air in a jam-packed 19-team conference. Their hunger for a win led to a prolonged game of back-and-forth grit in overtime with the Ballarat Miners.
The Hawks took the lead over the 10th placed Miners with a 113-110 win.
On the other side of town, the Frankston Blues hosted the Geelong Supercats. The Blues were up by two points in the fourth quarter, but with two seconds on the clock and ladder positions on the line, the Supercats scored a two and took the game into overtime.
The Supercats gained the advantage in overtime and won 98-97.
NBL1 Central saw two women’s games reach an OT frenzy on Saturday night, with the Norwood Flames rocketing through overtime against the Woodville Warriors, and the North Adelaide Rockets overpowering the South Adelaide Panthers.
Flames leader Ally Wilson recorded a triple-double over the Warriors and led the squad to a healthy 108-99 win at home.
The Rockets were seconds from a one-point win over the South Adelaide Panthers, when they led 70-69 with two seconds to go. But the Panthers’ Hannah Stewart equalled the score with a free throw, before the Rockets punched back in the extra period to record the 85-74 win.
In the East, the Men’s Norths Bears were hungrier for the win over the Albury-Wodonga Bandits, and claimed a 107-97 win at home.
