Sabres men go down to a rampant Frankston side

The Sabres entered the contest on the back of an impressive victory against Keilor, while Frankston are one of the hottest teams in the South conference after winning their last five.

The game started at breakneck speed with both sides pushing the pace up and down the floor. Blues guard Lachlan Barker started the contest hot, with 11 first quarter points. The sabres also ignited offensively making for a tight first quarter. When the first buzzer sounded, Frankston led 23-22.

Blues big man Daniel Trist tested his more experienced match-up in David Barlow down in the post, providing great rim protection and rebounding as well. Still the game stayed tight and tense in the second quarter, as Frankston extended their lead to just five points at the half.

With some gritty buckets from team captain Lucas Barker, the Blues held off a third quarter resurgence from the Sabres as the likes of Tanner Krebs, C.J. Asuncion-Byrd and young gun Joel Foxwell tried desperately to will the boys to victory.

Frankston continued to knock down massive buckets to run out 11-point winners as some of their prime movers came up big. For the Sabres, Krebs finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, Asuncion-Byrd had 14 points and youngster Joel Foxwell continues to impress with 13 points and a steal.

The boys next face the Hobart Chargers on Saturday night at the Sabre dome, to round out the regular season, before embarking on the finals.
