Having a currently rostered WNBA player playing NBL1 should not be ignored.
From young fans being able to watch an Opal up close and personal, to developing NBL1 prospects being able to train and play against her, to her peers being able to finally play alongside her – Sami Whitcomb is one of Australia’s best and is giving back to the game through NBL1.

Alex Fowler is one such peer, a WNBL star in her own right and is playing alongside Whitcomb at the NBL1 West’s Perry Lakes Hawks.
She explained it’s been a long-time dream to play alongside the Opals great.
“I’m so happy that I get a chance to play with Sami,” she said on the Fast Break podcast.
“I’ve always wanted to, she is an amazing player and an amazing teammate.”
Fowler explained that both of them have only been with the team for a short while, but the entire club has made them both feel so welcome. Fowler credited Whitcomb for living up to her praise, as a universally beloved leader and teammate.
“In every level, every team, you always hear such great things about Sami as a teammate, as a leader, the way that she takes each training so seriously,” she said.
“She’s always offering advice and willing to share her knowledge with the team. Even in the NBL1 training we had the other day, she was so in it. At times you think for some players, it might be just their off-season, but she's only playing two games for us, and she's all in.
“Getting around the girls, like giving out her knowledge of the game and what people can do. That's like a special credit to her as a person, a basketball player and a leader.”
The Perry Lakes Hawks will host the Eastern Suns on Friday night, tune in live from 6:30pm AWST live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
