Geelong United score a pair of home wins over Melbourne Tigers while Maddy Rocci and Issie Bourne had 52 in a win for Keilor Thunder, and Tanner Krebs and Angus Glover delivered a win for Ringwood Hawks.

Geelong United's women stayed unbeaten and the men knocked off the loaded up Melbourne Tigers in NBL1 South with Ballarat Miners men firing back to beat Bendigo Braves, and Bec Cole's 31 lifted the defending champion Waverley Falcons.

Geelong United (79) defeated Melbourne Tigers (56)

Geelong United continued their undefeated season in the NBL1 South overcoming 49 points from Sara Blicavs and Izzy Borlase for the 79-56 win at home over the Melbourne Tigers.

Both teams arrived at The Geelong Arena full of high-calibre talent on winning streaks setting the stage for a tantalising match up.

Geelong were back home having won their opening 11 matches of the season while the Tigers arrived also having lost their past five games and with two genuine superstars, Blicavs and Borlase.

Both teams struggled offensively in the opening quarter with Melbourne managing to lead 15-11 while only shooting 5/16 opposed to the 5/18 from Geelong.

Geelong turned that around in the second period with 26 points to 10 while improving their shooting to 10/21 including knocking down three triples on the way to leading 37-25 by the half-time break.

The Geelong lead grew to as much as 16 points in the third frame and then continued to grow getting as big as 28 in the fourth quarter before the undefeated home team scored the 23-point triumph.

Neither team had a great offensive night with Geelong ending up shooting 40 per cent from the floor to 34 from the Tigers with United going 9/25 from deep to 4/22 from Melbourne while pulling down 49 rebounds to 38, and 15 at the offensive end to six along with forcing their opponents into 16 turnovers.

Jaz Shelley knocked down another 4/8 from behind the three-point arc for Geelong on her way to 25 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Annika Stewart added 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, Dakota Crichton 12 points, five boards and two assists, Hannah Hank nine points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Lilly Rotunno nine points, eight assists and four boards.

Sara Blicavs produced 26 points and six rebounds for the Tigers and Izzy Borlase 23 points, four assists and two boards, but no other Melbourne player scored more than three points and the rest of the team combined for just seven points on 3/19 shooting.

Bendigo Braves (60) lost to Ballarat Miners (66)

The Ballarat Miners scored 26 of their 66 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and beat the Bendigo Braves 66-60 to snap a four-match losing slide.

The two regional powers locked horns on Saturday night at Red Energy Arena and both were trying to get an important win to try and stay in touch with a top eight spot after tough first halves of the season.

Ballarat did start on fire with an 11-0 run in the first quarter to lead by as much as seven but by quarter-time it was Bendigo back on top 17-15.

Bendigo's advantage got out to nine points in the second frame but Ballarat did turn things around to end up leading 35-33 by the half-time interval.

The Miners then only managed to score five points in the entire 10 minutes of the third quarter thanks to shooting just 2/14 from the field while Bendigo ended up scoring 15 points even while shooting just 6/19 themselves.

That saw the Braves lead 48-40 by three quarter-time, but then it was all the Miners in the final term. They shook off that horror third quarter by putting up 26 in the last on shooting 10/16 including going 4/6 from long range.

That saw Ballarat go from eight points down at three quarter-time to score the six-point win to improve to a 4-8 record having snapped a four-game losing streak.

Micah Simpson provided 17 points and five assists in the win for the Miners with Julia Gladkova contributing 15 points and four boards, Georgia Woolley 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals, and Abbey Wehrung 11 points and nine boards.

Bendigo are now 3-11 on the season with the loss at home with Taisheka Porchia finishing with 22 points, 14 rebounds and two steals while Cassidy McLean contributed 17 points, five steals, four boards and two assists, and Mia Harvey seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

BALLARAT MINERS 66 (Simpson 17, Gladkova 15, Woolley 12)

Kilsyth Cobras (61) lost to Knox Raiders (68)

Alicia Froling starred as the Knox Raiders maintained pace with the top two teams in the NBL1 South with the 68-61 win on the road to the Kilsyth Cobras.

The Cobras were back home at Kilsyth Sports Centre looking to avoid a fourth straight defeat as they placed host to the Raiders who arrived having won their last two to be knocking on the door of second place.

It would prove to be a horror first quarter from Kilsyth with the home team managing just the three points in the opening 10 minutes on the back of shooting 0/12 from three-point range.

Knox put up 18 points opposed to that and then would end up leading by as much as 18 points in the second term ahead of being up 38-25 by the half-time break.

The Cobras even managed to outscore the Raiders 36 to 30 in the second half but couldn’t quite get close enough to strike on what would have been a remarkable comeback after that three-point first quarter.

Knox held on for the seven-point win to improve to a 10-3 record as a result with Alicia Froling delivering 22 points and five rebounds even on 4/10 shooting at the free-throw line.

Rachel Bell added 11 points, three rebounds and two blocks, Agnes Emma-Nnopu 10 points and 10 boards, and Paige Bradley eight points and eight rebounds.

Kilsyth have now slipped to a 3-10 record having lost their past four matches with Abby O'Connor finishing with 21 points and four rebounds with Nikita Young adding 11 points, six boards, five assists, five steals and two blocks, and Anamaria Virjoghe 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Nunawading Spectres (59) lost to Frankston Blues (71)

Despite the presence of Shaneice Swain for the Nunawading Spectres, the Frankston Blues ended up getting the win away from home 71-59.

The Spectres added Swain into their line-up for the first time for the match up at Nunawading Basketball Centre as they attempted to back up their win over the Sandringham Sabres and to break into the top eight.

The Blues arrived also on the same missing on the back of beating the Kilsyth Cobras last Sunday, but it was the Spectres clinging to the three-point lead at quarter-time with both teams only combining for 23 points in the opening 10 minutes.

Frankston then got to the foul line 14 times in the second quarter on the way to outscoring Nunawading 19 to 18, but it was still the Spectres clinging to the 31-29 lead by half-time.

It was in the third period that Frankston made their move with 25 points to 12, and that set them on the way to recording the 12-point victory away from home.

Neither team had a great shooting night with the Blues going at just 38 per cent to the 34 from the Spectres while Frankston went just 6/23 from three to Nunawading's 3/25.

The real difference came with the Blues going 19/23 at the foul line to just 10/14 from the Spectres.

The win improves Frankston to an 8-5 record on the season with the consecutive wins.

Nunawading are now 6-6 on the season ahead of taking on the Dandenong Rangers on Sunday to wrap up the round's action.

Shaneice Swain delivered 15 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks for the Spectres with Laina Snyder adding 14 points, 11 boards, five assists and four steals, and Rachel Brewster nine points, six rebounds and two steals.

Ringwood Hawks (76) lost to Waverley Falcons (82)

Bec Cole put up 31 points and the Waverley Falcons bounced back from last week's loss in style with the 82-76 road win over the Ringwood Hawks.

Both teams came into the match up occupying positions inside the top eight with the Hawks coming into the round sitting eighth and having won two straight while Waverley were fifth and trying to rebound from last week's loss to the Knox Raiders.

They did battle at The Rings on Saturday night with the Falcons starting well to open up an eight-point lead in the first quarter but that was back to just two by quarter-time.

Ringwood then went on a 9-0 scoring run to open up an eight-point lead themselves in the second period and then to still be leading narrowly 37-34 by the half-time break.

It was Waverley who worked back on top in the third term with 23 points to 18, and then the defending champions completed the job in the fourth term with another 25 points to 21 to score the eventual six-point victory.

The win improves the Falcons to a 9-4 record on the season in their lone appearance of the weekend with Bec Cole the start ending up with 31 points, five rebounds and five assists with 4/10 three-point shooting and 7/7 at the foul line.

Katelyn Shumate added 17 points, four rebounds and four steals, Renae Mokrzycki 10 points on 5/7 shooting, and Carley Ernst nine points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

The Hawks are also playing their only game this weekend and now are sitting on a 7-6 record with Lana Hollingsworth finishing with 25 points and four assists with 3/5 three-point shooting.

Alex Wittinger also had 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots, Annabel Deerbon 17 points, four boards and two assists, and Camille Hobby 10 points and eight rebounds.

WAVERLEY FALCONS 82 (Cole 31, Shumate 17, Mokrzycki 10)

Eltham Wildcats (55) lost to Diamond Valley Eagles (92)

The Diamond Valley Eagles had their guns all up and firing led by Tayha Watkins with 24 points and produced a dominant showing beating the Eltham Wildcats 92-55.

The Wildcats were back home at Montmorency Secondary College looking to snap a seven-game losing run up against a Diamond Valley team powered back up and trying to rebound from a loss to the Bendigo Braves.

Diamond Valley went on a 10-0 scoring run in the opening quarter on the way to leading 24-15 by the end of the term before only continuing to build on that advantage the rest of the evening.

The lead for the Eagles got out to 20 points in the second term, 27 in the third and 37 in the fourth with them on the way to the 37-point victory on the back of shooting 45 per cent from the field to 30 from the Wildcats.

The Eagles also forced the Wildcats into 27 turnovers for the game from which they scored 20 points as they scored the win to improve to an 8-4 record on the season.

Tayha Watkins led the charge for Diamond Valley with 24 points, five rebounds and three steals with 8/13 shooting from the field, 3/5 from three-point range and 5/5 at the foul line.

Steph Reid added 15 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists, Lara McSpadden 13 points, eight boards and two assists, Abbey Ellis 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists, and Erin Riley 11 points, eight boards and two assists.

Eltham are now 2-10 for the season having lost eight straight with Kennedy Dickie top-scoring with 20 points and eight rebounds on 3/4 three-point shooting.

Lil Dart added 12 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals, Jayde Cadee 12 points, three boards and two steals, and Bec Pizzey six points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

ELTHAM WILDCATS 55 (Dickie 20, Cadee 12, Dart 12)

DIAMOND VALLEY EAGLES 92 (Watkins 24, Reid 15, McSpadden 13, Ellis 13)

Keilor Thunder (88) defeated Casey Cavaliers (66)

Maddy Rocci and Issie Bourne combined for 52 points and 13 rebounds as Keilor Thunder won big 88-66 at home to the Casey Cavaliers.

The Thunder had their dynamic duo on hand for the Saturday night match up at Keilor Stadium looking to retain their hold on second position as they hosted a Casey team trying to avoid a fifth successive defeat.

It was a hot start from Keilor with 26 points to 15 in the opening quarter and then even though the scoring dried up for both teams in the second term, the Thunder were still in control at half-time leading 40-27.

Keilor was then able to continue to pull away throughout the second half with that lead getting out to 18 points in the third quarter, and 23 in the fourth before they secured the eventual 22-point victory.

The Thunder ended up shooting 45 per cent from the field opposed to the 29 from the Cavs while also forcing their opponents into 17 turnovers from which they were able to score 19 points.

Keilor improves to 10-2 on the season as a result of the win with Maddy Rocci ending up with 29 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Issie Bourne also produced 23 points and six rebounds with Penina Davidson contributing 18 points, 12 boards, two assists and two blocks, and Lily Carmody six points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Casey are now 4-8 following a fifth successive defeat with Lauryn Hippolite finishing with 19 points and six rebounds on 6/8 three-point shooting.

Jaden Owens added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, Ahlise Hurst nine points and five boards, Esra McGoldrick nine points and 11 rebounds, and Sharne Robati eight points and seven boards.

Geelong United (89) defeated Melbourne Tigers (86)

A combined 70 points from Harry Froling, Tom Wilson and Jack Purchase wasn’t enough for the Melbourne Tigers with Geelong Tigers scoring the 89-86 home win.

With Geelong needing a win to stay in touch with a playoff spot and the Tigers also needing to win to stay in the top four, it always shaped as a fascinating match up at The Geelong Arena.

Melbourne had managed to open up a 30-26 lead by the end of the first quarter before Geelong produced 24 points to 16 in the second term to go into half-time on top 50-46.

United built on that advantage in the third frame with another 24 points to 20 and to be leading by as much as 11 before still being on top 74-66 by three quarter-time.

Despite that, the Tigers hit back to reclaim the lead following back-to-back three balls from Harry Froling and Tom Wilson with just under three minutes to play.

George Blagojevic responded for Geelong to tie scores back up in just his second appearance of the season before Froling scored on the inside after an offensive rebound for the Tigers to lead by two with 1:45 to go.

Owen Odigie levelled things once more at the foul line before Geelong were back in front courtesy of DeMarcus Gatlin. Tristan Forsyth made the lead three but the Tigers had a chance at the prayer that wouldn’t go from Froling with United holding on to win by three.

The victory keeps Geelong's season alive with a 5-7 record to snap a three-game losing streak with Forsyth continuing his imposing form with another 26 points, 15 rebounds and three assists on 11/18 shooting.

Liam Herbert contributed 19 points on 5/7 three-point shooting, Marach Marach 12 points and two rebounds, Owen Odigie 11 points and five boards, and DeMarcus Gatlin six points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Tigers are now 6-5 following the loss with Harry Froling finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists with Tom Wilson delivering 25 points, 11 assists and five boards, and Jack Purchase 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Bendigo Braves (109) lost to Ballarat Miners (112)

A 12-0 run in the final quarter helped the Ballarat Miners turn a seven-point deficit into a seven-point lead of their own before securing the 112-109 win in a spectacular contest over the Bendigo Braves.

The Braves were back home at Red Energy to host the Miners with both teams having lost their past two matches, and each of them trying to break into the top eight setting the stage for a terrific contest.

It more than lived up to its billing starting with them combining for 60 points in the first quarter for Ballarat to be leading Bendigo 33-27.

They then produced 62 points between them in the second term with 31 each including getting to the foul line 14 times apiece which saw Ballarat clinging to the 64-58 lead by half-time.

Bendigo would end up leading by seven points with five minutes to play on the back of a three-point dagger from Justin Johnson.

Geelong had all the momentum by that stage but Bendigo were able to turn things once more starting with a triple of their own from Ethan Fiegert.

In the end, recently signed Tasmania JackJumpers guard Nick Stoddart drew the Miners back level with three minutes to play before putting them in front when he turned that into a four-point play.

Luke Rosendale then pushed that lead out to three, Dayne Prim made it five, Majok Majok made it seven and from there Ballarat survived for the three-point win when a couple of three-point attempts from Bendigo in the last possession wouldn’t fall.

The Miners improve to a 7-5 record as a result of the thrilling win with Rosendale producing 30 points, four rebounds and three assists on 1117 shooting from the floor, and 5/10 from three-point range.

Stoddart also had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, Majok 21 points, five rebounds and two assists, Prim 18 points and nine boards on 4/6 three-point shooting, and Aiden Krause 11 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

Bendigo are now 7-7 on the season as a result of the loss with Justin Johnson outstanding with 38 points, four rebounds and three assists with 12/16 shooting from the foul line.

Lual Diing also delivered 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Charles Matthews 23 points, five boards, four steals and two blocked shots, and Josiah Pattinson nine points, three steals and two rebounds.

Kilsyth Cobras (82) lost to Knox Raiders (95)

The Knox Raiders maintained top position in the NBL1 South with he 95-82 road win over the Kilsyth Cobras.

The Cobras were back home at Kilsyth Sports Centre looking to maintain their spot in the top eight and hitting back from a last up loss to the Frankston Blues.

They were playing host to a Knox team sitting in top spot having won seven straight and bringing with them plenty of momentum, but it was Kilsyth who had the better of things early going on a 12-0 scoring run.

The Cobras were still leading 22-15 by quarter-time having knocked down 4/8 from three-point range but the Raiders fired back as expected in the second frame with 28 points to 16 to be in front 43-38 by the half-time break.

The Raiders were then able to build on that advantage throughout the second half with the lead getting out to 13 points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth before they secured the 13-point victory away from home.

Knox improves to a 12-1 record as a result of the win in their lone appearance of the weekend.

Kilsyth are now 7-6 on the season having lost two straight with Adrian Tomada delivering 26 points, four assists and three rebounds on shooting 9/13 from the field and 3/6 from downtown.

Dillon Stith added 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists with Corey Jeffs providing 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals, and Jamie Ahale nine points and four boards.

Nunawading Spectres (76) lost to Frankston Blues (82)

Michael Harris and Taane Samuel combined for another 43 points as the Frankston Blues strengthened their top four claims with the 82-76 road win over the Nunawading Spectres.

The Spectres were back home at Nunawading Basketball Centre knocking on the door of the top eight despite last week's loss to the Sandringham Sabres.

Frankston arrived fresh off beating the Kilsyth Cobras by 34 points and were building some impressive momentum, and they did open up a seven-point lead in the first quarter.

However, by quarter-time it was Nunawading leading 27-25 before the Blues outscored the Specters 18-14 in the second term to go into half-time leading 43-41.

The Blues were clinging to a three-point lead by three quarter-time but it was then a rollercoaster ride in the final period with Nunawading firing straight away with the opening seven points including a three ball to Joe Mutimer that put them up by four.

That advantage was out to five shortly after when Christian D'Angelo also hit from long-range but then it was Frankston's turn to fire back and by the time Kingsley Box hit a triple with 1:45 to go, the scores were back level.

That was the start of the Blues scoring 10 straight points and that was enough to secure them the eventual six-point victory as they made it consecutive wins to improve to an 8-5 record on the season.

Michael Harris top-scored once more for Frankston with 23 points as he narrowly missed a triple-double also having 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Taane Samuel added 20 points and four rebounds, Kingsley Box 14 points and four boards, and Lucas Barker eight points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.

Nunawading are now 6-6 to remain outside the top eight ahead of a road clash with the Dandenong Rangers on Sunday to close the weekend's action.

Christian D'Angelo put up 28 points and six rebounds with 6/8 three-point shooting for the Spectres with Joe Mutimer adding 10 points and six assists, Brian Mack II 10 points, 10 boards and six assists, and Cameron Cranston nine points.

NUNAWADING SPECTRES 76 (D'Angelo 28, Mutimer 10, Mack II 10)

FRANKSTON BLUES 82 (Harris 23, Samuel 20, Box 14)

Ringwood Hawks (122) defeated Waverley Falcons (107)

Tanner Krebs and Angus Glover combined for 50 points and eight threes but also got plenty of help as the Ringwood Hawks beat the Waverley Falcons 122-107 in a high-scoring spectacle.

The Hawks were back home at The Rings trying to back up their last up win over the North West Tasmania Thunder with the Falcons arriving trying to hit back from a 27-point loss at the hands of the Knox Raiders.

The high-scoring contest got underway with the two teams combining for 67 points in the first quarter while the Hawks shot 13/23 and the Falcons 11/21 with Ringwood leading 37-30 by quarter-time.

They combined for another 59 points in the second term with Waverley outscoring Ringwood 33 points to 26 which meant that the scores were all tied at 63-63 by the half-time break.

Ringwood pulled away with 32 points to 20 in the second term before turning that into an 18-point lead in the final quarter on the way to the eventual 15-point victory.

It was a game where the two teams combined for 229 points with the Hawks shooting 52 per cent from the field to the 51 from the Falcons while Ringwood knocked down 15/36 from three and 23/31 at the stripe, opposed to the Falcons going 13/39 from downtown and 12/17 at the foul line.

The victory improves Ringwood to a 5-8 record with Tanner Krebs delivering 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 6/12 three-point shooting.

Harrey Sealey also had 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, Angus Glover 17 points and five assists, Josh Tomasi 15 points, eight boards and three assists, Tom Carroll 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Jonathan Lawton 13 points, four assists, three steals and two boards.

Waverley are now 5-8 on the season as well having lost two straight despite Khalil Shabazz delivering 35 points and seven rebounds with shooting 13/26 from the field, 6/15 from downtown and 3/5 at the free-throw line.

Malik Meunier added 19 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Falcons, Matthew McCarthy 17 points, three boards and two assists, and Robbie Heath 12 points and four rebounds.

Eltham Wildcats (92) defeated Diamond Valley Eagles (81)

The Eltham Wildcats withstood 27 points and 19 rebounds from Jock Perry to solidify their place in the top eight as reigning champions with the 92-81 home win over the Diamond Valley Eagles.

The championship defence with a decidedly new-look team had been gathering steam for Eltham following two straight wins ahead of the clash with the Eagles at Montmorency Secondary College.

Diamond Valley arrived also coming off a win against the Bendigo Braves and even though Eltham raced out to a 10-point lead, by quarter-time it was the Eagles leading 26-24.

Diamond Valley went on to lead by as much as seven points in the second period but by half-time it was the Wildcats who had assumed the 46-44 advantage after an entertaining opening half featuring 13 made threes between the two sides.

The Eagles were then able to gradually pull away throughout the second half ending up leading by seven points in the third frame, and 11 in the fourth on the way the 11-point victory.

Eltham improves to a 7-5 record as a result of the third straight victory with Xavier Bledson finishing the night with 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals on the back of shooting 3/6 from three-point range.

Josh Sykes added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, Sam Whelan 15 points on 5/6 three-point shooting, Zak Cunningham 12 points, seven boards and two assists, Sam Short 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds, and Mitch McCarron 10 points, six assists and five boards.

Diamond Valley are now 4-8 on the season to slip further from playoff contention with Jock Perry ending up with 27 points, 19 rebounds and three assists on 11/18 shooting from the floor and 5/5 at the foul line.

Jesse McIntosh also delivered 17 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Jesse Ghee 12 points and four assists.

ELTHAM WILDCATS 92 (Bledson 21, Whelan 15, Sykes 13)

The Casey Cavaliers came from behind at three quarter-time to return to the winner's list with the 90-80 road victory against Keilor Thunder.

The Cavaliers arrived at Keilor Stadium trying to hit back from a loss last Saturday to the Melbourne Tigers while the Thunder were on their home floor and also looking to respond to a last up loss to the Kilsyth Cobras.

Keilor made an impressive start on their home floor opening up a 12-point lead ahead of still being in control at 30-20 by quarter-time thanks to shooting 12/22 from the field and 4/6 from three-point range.

The Thunder maintained a 47-38 lead heading into half-time and were back out to a 12-point lead in the third quarter, but Casey then began to work back into the contest with a 9-0 scoring run.

They would end up outscoring the Thunder 23 points to 15 in the third term to cut Keilor's lead to one at three quarter-time.

The Cavaliers were then in charge of the last quarter with 29 points to 18 on the back of going 13/16 at the foul line to come from behind to secure the eventual 10-point victory.

Casey improves to an 8-4 record as a result of the win with Trendon Hankerson delivering 21 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Preston Bungei added 17 points and three rebounds, Nate Roberts 13 points, 14 boards and four assists, Gorjok Gak 10 points and three rebounds, and Anthony Karabatsos nine points on 4/7 shooting.

Keilor are now 4-8 following the defeat with Deng Dut finishing with 16 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals with Daniel Poelsma contributing 15 points on 3/6 long-range shooting.

Jayce Beasley also had 12 points on 3/3 three-point shooting, Daniel Foster 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Chris Harris 10 points and seven boards.
