Heading into week nine of the season, we have seven teams left with an undefeated record. While every team in NBL1 Central has had at least one loss, every other conference has a handful of perfect teams remaining.

Check out the team's play so far this season and why you should tune in this weekend.

Women’s

Geelong United: 10-0

With one of the most talented women’s rosters assembled this season, United has successfully transitioned its WNBL talent into the NBL1 program – and it is paying off.

Leading the way is Jaz Shelley, averaging 20.6 points, 5.3 assists and 4.1 steals per game. While co-star Hannah Hank has been a dominant force inside, averaging 16.8 points and 9.4 rebounds. Not even mentioning Gemma Potter, Lilly Rotunno and the returning Taylor Mole – United are truly stacked.

On a long road trip across Round 7, with Knox on Friday night and Mount Gambier on Sunday afternoon, Geelong will reset and face the Wildcats, in Eltham to chase 11 straight wins this Saturday.

Norths Bears: 9-0

Perpetually a finals contender, the 2023 champions have started hot and will only get better.

The Bears are set for another championship run with the mid-season return of 2023 Finals MVP Jolene Anderson. With two games under her belt thus far, the former WNBA player is going to elevate the team’s championship chances in August once again.

While MVP-contender Carla Pitman continues to ball out week in and week out, the one to watch is Ruby Perkins. Leading NSW to the U20 championships and just being announced to the 2025 U19s National team, this future superstar could be the swing factor in the Bears’ second championship in three years.

Newcastle Falcons: 9-0

Fresh off a championship season with a slightly retooled roster, the Nicole Munger-led Falcons have maintained their momentum into 2025. With former Hornet Meg Jefferson, rising star Hannah Chicken and captain Kate Kingham – the Falcons are flying through the start of the season.

Coming off a close win against Hornsby, Munger explained to Love of the Game how the team elevated their performance across the board rather than leaning on the biggest stars.

With the high of nine-straight wins, the Falcons will host the Bankstown Bruins on Saturday night for their chance at 10 straight W’s.

Cockburn Cougars: 8-0

Making two straight Grand Finals and winning in 2023, the Cougars have been the definition of success in the West.

With a big three of Sarah Mortensen, Steph Gorman and Daniel Raber, Cockburn have clearly been the top team in the NBL1 West this season. While their overwhelming talent is key to their success, it’s the role players like Ruby Porter, Jewel Williams and Jaya Scafidi, who have made the difference with the team’s scoring differential of 26 points per game.

With the West as talented as it is this season, any team with any star may be able to knock them off in the Finals with the likes of Anneli Maley, Ally Wilson, Chloe Forster and Abby Cubillo all gunning for the title.

Mackay Meteorettes: 4-0

With the addition of two-time NBL1 East All-Star Five member Unique Thompson, the Mackay Meteorettes are bound for an entry into the top six.

Thompson made her debut in Round 3, scoring 20 points and 20 rebounds against Sunshine Coast on Saturday and 38 points with 15 rebounds against the Northside Wizards on Sunday.

Alongside young superstar Monique Bobongie, Mackay has depth and star talent – the perfect blend, especially for a regional team that travels significantly every other week.

Hosting Katie Deeble’s Gold Coast Rollers this weekend, Mackay has the chance to cement themselves as a true contender.

Southern Districts Spartans: 4-0

Coming off a National Finals appearance, the Southern Districts Spartans are ready to make another finals push in 2025.

The Spartans made a statement over the weekend, with a 45-point game by Canadian import Nicole Fransson. Alongside Grand Finalist Jess McDowell-White, Tiana Mangakahia and Kalani Purcell, Southern Districts are on pace for another deep run in the NBL1 North Finals.

With a BYE in Round 4, the team has a week’s rest before facing the Brisbane Capitals on May 31st.

Men’s

Warwick Senators: 9-0

The only men’s team left in the country, and it’s been a historic run for multiple reasons.

It starts with Elijah Pepper, who scored 50, 51, 48 and 40 points in his first four games of the season. While he’s cooled off by his own standards (only averaging 31 points in the past four games), he is still the MVP frontrunner and is playmaking at an extraordinary level -- averaging 7.5 assists this season, and had 11 assists in Warwick’s win over Cockburn on Friday night.

While the team’s record is largely due to Pepper’s insane run, the team won a game while Pepper was unavailable due to national team commitments and still has an insanely talented group. Playing at a breakneck pace and featuring Pepper’s Wildcats teammate Todd Withers, the Senators have been the cream of the crop this season.

This weekend, they will make the trip up to Geraldton to face the Buccaneers in front of their hostile crowd, against one of the premier men’s teams in the country.
