Each week the NBL1 will put a spotlight on a women’s and men’s team from each conference for a major performance, a big win or a special occasion for the club.
See the women's Teams of the Week below:
NBL1 South: Ringwood Hawks
In some mid-week hoops during the school holidays, the reigning NBL1 South champions started off the NBL1 action for the First Nations Round on a Wednesday night!
The Hawks held strong against the second-placed Waverley Falcons with a five-point win, holding them to only 33 percent from outside the arc.
On Friday at home, the Hawks held onto a one-point win against the Geelong United Supercats. Marta Hermida made a layup to give the Hawks the one-point edge with two minutes left, as the two teams scrapped to secure the win.
With nine games under her belt, the return of Spanish star Hermida has cemented the Hawks back into the NBL1 South Finals – where they will try to repeat as champions.
NBL1 North: Logan Thunder
The Logan Thunder were in trouble in the early stages of the season, sitting with a 4-4 record after Round 7 – the Grand Finals runners-up were in some serious strife.
Now heading into Round 16, the Thunder are rolling with a nine-game win streak led by NBL1 North superstar Mikaela Ruef.
Averaging 22.5 points and 21.5 rebounds, the WNBL champion and NBL1 North All-Star Five member has been a dominant force again this season once returning to Australia after the WNBL Grand Final.
She joined The NBL1 Show this week to talk about her form and the Thunder’s season below.
NBL1 West: Warwick Senators
The reigning NBL1 National Champions have already locked in their spot in the 2023 National Finals, but this past round they have clinched their NBL1 West Finals spot for this season.
The defending NBL1 West champions had a rocky start to the season, sitting at 4-3 at the end of Round 7. Going into Round 16, they’ve climbed to fifth on the ladder and have locked in their chance to defend the West Title after a dominant 44-point win against the South West Slammers on Saturday night.
NBL1 Central: Southern Tigers
On The NBL1 Show, NBL1 Central expert Tristan Prentice broke down how the Southern Tigers are sitting in second place after Round 14.
“The key stat out of that one on the weekend was the fact that Brittany Hernandez had 19 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks,” he said on The NBL1 Show.
“She’s a big factor for the Southern Tigers heading into the Finals, she’s obviously had a season where she’s struggled to solidify her position in the five-spot for the Tigers. But in the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen that happen.”
NBL1 East: Bankstown Bruins
The Bankstown Bruins are currently 10th on the NBL1 East ladder with two rounds to go, and they still have a chance to make the East Finals after their fantastic two wins in Round 16.
On Friday they beat the Sydney Comets by five points at home. Import Violet Morrow dropped a massive 27 points and 17 rebounds against the undermanned Comets.
On Saturday, they fended off the Central Coast Crusaders’ efforts by holding them to 30.4 percent from the field, while four players for Bankstown scored in double-digits.
To make the East Finals, the Bruins must climb over the Canberra Nationals, the Albury-Wodonga Bandits and the Comets – can they do it? Find out this weekend via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
