Tasmanian NBL1 star Ellie Collins continued her strong SBL campaign on Wednesday night, posting a season high 44 points for the Southern Wolves.

Collins, who had signed for the Launceston Tornadoes for the 2020 NBL1 South season after playing for Hobart last year, is averaging 27.3 points per game in the SBL. Her 44-point explosion is her second 40-point game this season, after she reached that mark on August 12.

Despite her strong performance, the Wolves were beaten by the Hobart Phoenix 98-67. The Phoenix had a balanced scoring attack, with four players tallying double-digit scoring including Dimitria Jaynes (34 points), Kylie McCauley (20), Eliza Van De Kamp (20) and Clare Lapham (16).

The Glenorchy Spartans took down the KHBA Kings 65-51 in the other women’s game of round 16. Kate Berry (23 points) and Sarah O’Neill (21) led the way for the Spartans.

Elijah Pawson was the standout performer in the men’s league as his 29 points helped the Kings defeat the Spartans 97-64. Noah Straatsma provided strong support to Pawson with 21 points.

Tiri Masunda and Callum Boucher both scored 25 points to lead Hobart past the Wolves 89-61. BJ Radcliffe amassed 19 points for the Wolves.
