Bendigo Braves superstar Tessa Lavey headlines the four NBL1 players selected in the 2020 AFLW Draft.

Bendigo Braves superstar Tessa Lavey headlines the four NBL1 players selected in the 2020 AFLW Draft.

Lavey was picked with the 43rd selection by Richmond, where she will join fellow NBL1 star Monique Conti.

“Tessa is a strong powerful athlete with great potential. We are very excited to have her on board,” Richmond Women’s recruiter Lauren Tesoriero said, via richmondfc.com.au.

Lavey averaged 16.2 points and 4.6 assists per game for the Braves last season. She is also contracted to the WNBL’s Bendigo Spirit for the upcoming season.

Albury-Wodonga Bandits youngster Olivia Barber was taken with the 21st pick to Geelong. Barber appeared in two games for the Bandits in the 2019 NBL1 season.

Barber will be joined by Carly Remmos at the Cats, who was selected at number 39. Remmos played seven games for the Geelong Supercats in last year’s NBL1 campaign.

At pick 49, North Melbourne drafted Launceston Tornadoe Brooke Brown. Brown amassed 5.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Tornadoes last season.

“Brooke has great range on her kicking and really strong fundamentals for a player who is relatively fresh to the sport,” North AFLW list and performance manager Rhys Harwood said, via nmfc.com.au.

“Brooke has shown the capacity to play through all three zones with Launceston this year, to real effect.

“She has significant upside, and will give us some great flexibility in our squad, both for the short and longer term.

“We’ve had our eye on Brooke for a while, and are rapt to be able to add another talented Tasmanian to our squad.”
