Lightning Add Pair of NBL1 Players to WNBL Roster

The Adelaide Lightning have bolstered their roster just weeks out from the WNBL season, signing NBL1 pair Ally Wilson and Abbey Wehrung.

The Adelaide Lightning have bolstered their roster just weeks out from the WNBL season, signing NBL1 pair Ally Wilson and Abbey Wehrung.

Wilson joins the Lightning after spending last WNBL season playing for the Sydney Uni Flames, averaging 10.8 points per game. She played for the Diamond Valley Eagles in the 2019 NBL1 season and had signed to play for the Mount Gambier Pioneers in 2020.

“I think I’ve always said I’d love to come home and play for the Adelaide Lightning and now I get to do that, it will be so good,” Wilson said, via the club’s website.

“I usually play point guard, so I am looking to bring my leadership to the team. It’s my eighth year in the league so I also will bring that experience to the fore. I am a pass first point guard so I will bring my teammates as well into the game.”

Wehrung goes to Adelaide after impressing with the Bendigo Spirit last season, averaging 10.9 points. She played for the Knox Raiders in the 2019 NBL1 season and posted 14.8 points, 4.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. Wehrung had signed with the Bendigo Braves for the 2020 NBL1 season.

“I think it’s a really good opportunity and a versatile team to be a part of,” Wehrung said, via the club’s website.

“I’m excited about bringing some aggression offensively and defensively to this group at both ends of the court.”

The WNBL season will tip off November 12 in a Queensland hub.
