Diamond Valley Eagles 55 def by Geelong Supercats 95
The Geelong Supercats have secured an important win on the road, handing the Diamond Valley Eagles its 10th consecutive loss to start the season.
Geelong never trailed in the contest, which began competitively.
Olivia Bontempelli led the way for the Eagles, scoring 22 points and helping the home side stay within reach to come the first quarter.
Unfortunately for Diamond Valley, the Supercats poured in 34 points in the second term, which equaled what the Eagles would tally over the final three quarters of action.
Taking a 58-34 lead into the second half, Geelong continued to play with intensity, particularly on the defensive end, forcing Diamond Valley into 23 turnovers.
Sister-in-laws Sara and Stephanie Blicavs dominated the contest for the Supercats, combining for 52 points, 12 rebounds, nine steals and seven assists.
The win is Geelong’s fourth of the season as it aims to close out the regular season strong and secure a finals berth.
Waverley Falcons 80 def by Eltham Wildcats 94
The Eltham Wildcats have made it two wins in as many days, beating the Waverley Falcons on the road.
The lead swung back and forth across the first half, with Waverley taking a two-point advantage into the half-time break.
Alice Kunek put together a stellar performance on debut for the Falcons, scoring 31 points to lead her side.
However, the game turned in the third term on the back of Eltham’s dominance on the glass.
The Wildcats out-rebounded the home side 61-36, with Anneli Maley accounting for 20 of those rebounds.
Outscoring the Falcons 28-16 in the third quarter, these second chance opportunities mitigated the damage done to Eltham off its 17 turnovers.
Rebecca Pizzey was one of six Wildcats to score in double figures, leading the way with 21 points.
Eltham led by as many as 14 points in the final term as the side cruised to a comfortable win.
Sandringham Sabres 69 def by Albury-Wodonga Bandits 76
It was a scene of pure elation following Albury-Wodonga’s first win of the season, coming in a hard-fought battle in Sandringham.
The Bandits led for much of the contest, pulling ahead by as many as 11-points behind 25 points from leader Emma Mahady.
As the fourth quarter played out, things got dicy for Albury-Wodonga, who conceded a 14-3 run and fell behind by five points.
The Sabres relied on the shooting touch of Morgan Riley, who connected on six three-pointers for 18 points.
Staring down the prospects of a 10th consecutive loss, the Bandits were able to put together a run of its own, outscoring 19-5 over the final six minutes to lock in the victory.
Melbourne Tigers 68 def by Ballarat Rush 80
The Ballarat Rush have put an end to its six-game skid, beating the Melbourne Tigers away from home.
Ballarat took a three-point agvantage away from a close first quarter before locking down the Tigers in the second term, allowing only 10 points.
Alicia Froling took control of the contest with her rebounding, pulling down 20 boards to go along with 17 points.
Ballarat’s strong defense stifled Tigers stars Monique Conti and Zitina Aokuso, who combined for 26 missed shots and seven turnovers.
Leading by as many as 26 points in the opening minutes of the third quarter, Ballarat was able to cruise to a 12-point victory following a late push from Melbourne.
