Bendigo Braves 84 def Dandenong Rangers 56
The Bendigo Braves have won its second game in as many nights, securing a victory in front of its home fans over the Dandenong Rangers.
Braves guard Tess Madgen scored the opening basket of the contest and seemingly never cooled down after that.
Madgen did it all for Bendigo as the Braves pulled ahead by 12 points in the opening term, scoring the ball while facilitating for her teammates.
She finished the contest with an incredible 43 points, to go along with nine assists, nine rebounds and seven three-pointers.
The Rangers on the other hand showed signs of life in the second term, closing the gap to only two points, but ultimately couldn’t keep up with the Braves in the scoring department.
Dandenong guard Dallas Loughbridge impressed, scoring 17 points while stealing the ball five times, however it was not enough, as the Rangers were outscored 43-28 in the second half.
Waverley Falcons 93 def Albury Wodonga Bandits 64
The Waverley Falcons have bounced back from a lough loss to Geelong on Saturday evening, thrashing the winless Albury Wodonga Bandits at home.
All the momentum was with the Falcons from the opening tip, as Waverley took advantage of every opportunity to exploit its clear size advantage.
The Falcons dominated the first half, opening up a 51-27 lead going into the main break.
It seemed as though every time Waverley missed, they were able to secure an offensive rebound and capitalise.
The Falcons pulled down 34 of its 73 rebounds on the offensive end, which completely eliminated any momentum Albury Wodonga’s defence put together.
Renae Mokrzycki starred on the interior for Waverley, scoring 28 points and pulling down 17 rebounds, while Aneta Bandilovska stretched the Bandit’s defence with her shooting (29 points, six made three-pointers).
The second half was much of the same for both sides.
The Bandits were able to get back within 14 points in the third term thanks to some great play from Emma Mahady (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Charlotte Beavan (16 points, five three-pointers), but all that seemed to do was kick Waverley back into gear, as the side pulled even further ahead over the final 15 minutes to secure the victory.
Melbourne Tigers 109 def Hobart Chargers 87
The Melbourne Tigers have registered an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Hobart Chargers on the back of a pair of spectacular performances from two of its stars.
The Chargers led early, opening up a 12 point lead which it would hold onto to close the first term.
Hobart guards Ellie Collins and Madeleine Garrick combined for 44 points and helped steer the side in the right direction before Melbourne came roaring back in the second term.
The Tigers stifled Hobart in the second quarter, holding the Chargers to just 14 points, while Monique Conti put her scoring stamp on the game.
The guard was hitting shots from all over the court, ultimately finishing the contest with 40 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Conti was able to find these open looks thanks in part to the work of Zitina Aokuso, who tallied a triple-double in the game (19 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds).
Once the Tigers took the lead in the second term, the side never looked back, running away with the game in the final quarter to secure the 22-point win.
Sandringham Sabres 67 def by Launceston Tornadoes 100
The Launceston Tornadoes have bounced back from its Saturday evening loss, putting together an impressive victory against the Sandringham Sabres on the road.
While the Sabres kept the game close for much of the first quarter, Launceston’s stars simply shined too brightly for the remainder of the game.
Keely Froling continued her incredible start to the year, tallying 37 points on efficient shooting, while pulling down 13 rebounds.
Froling was helped by the pair of Mariah Payne and Kelsey Griffin, who each scored 20 points.
As the Sabres looked to get back into the game, after the first term, the disparity in three-point shooting success played a big part in the direction of the contest.
Sandringham only connected on four three-pointers, 10 less than that of the Tornadoes.
That wide gap, along with Launceston’s impressive defensive display enabled the Tornadoes to run away with the easy road victory.
