Kilsyth Cobras 60 def by Launceston Tornadoes 87
The Launceston Tornadoes have continued its hot run of form, winning its second game of the weekend on the road, this time against Kilsyth.
The Tornadoes were immediately buoyed by the return of the league's top scorer, Keely Froling, who helped Launceston open up an early 25-12 advantage.
Led by Froling, who finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds, the visitors never trailed in the contest.
Froling was supported by Kelsey Griffin, who tallied 24 points and 13 rebounds of her own.
On the other sider, Kilsyth struggled to pull its way out of the hole it found itself in after the opening term.
Lauren Nicholson did her best, scoring 18 points while dishing out 5 assists, however Launceston seemed to have an answer for just about everything the Cobras threw its way.
One of the biggest advantages came at the free-throw line, with the Tornadoes attempting 20 more than the Cobras.
Launceston will look to keep this momentum going as the team heads home to face the Mt Gambier Pioneers next week.
Waverley Falcons 63 def by Bendigo Braves 84
The Bendigo Braves have continued its push towards a top four position, taking down the Waverley falcons in the process.
The first quarter was a tale of two halves, with Bendigo opening up a 13-2 lead before Waverley hit back with a 12-1 run to close the term.
While the momentum seemed to be with the Falcons, it was the Braves that broke the game open after the first break, charging ahead and entering halftime up 43-27.
Bendigo’s lead reached as much as 22 points in the third term before the Falcons tried valiantly to get back into the game.
Renae Mokrzycki led Waverley in scoring with 14 points, while Mia Parsons tallied 10 points off the bench, however they would be the only Falcons to reach double figures in the contest.
While Bendigo too only had a pair of players score in double-digits, its stars made much more of a scoring impact.
Kate Oliver and Tess Madgen combined for 49 points (27 and 22 respectively) to guide the Braves over the final two quarters and secure the 21-point win.
Sandringham Sabres 81 def Hobart Chargers 49
The Sandringham Sabres have come away with a big victory at home against a tired looking Hobart Chargers side.
The Sabres were quick out of the blocks, taking the lead after the opening tip and never giving it up.
Sandringham expanded on its lead every single quarter as Hobart struggled to respond.
Playing its second game in as many days and missing leading scorer Madeleine Garrick, the Chargers never seemed to get in rhythm, failing to score over 14 points in any quarter and only managing 18 made field goals against 24 turnovers.
With Hobart seemingly unable to respond, the win came easily for Sandringham, as its stars shone brightly.
Jenna O’Hea led her side in scoring with 21 points, while Amy O’Neill flirted with a triple double (17 points, nine assists and eight rebounds).
The win is the Sabres’ fourth of the year ahead of its next game against Waverley at home.
Melbourne Tigers 89 def Nunawading Spectres 66
The Melbourne Tigers have beaten the Nunawading Spectres at home in an impressive team showing.
Trailing after the first quarter, the Tigers slowly worked its way back into the lead in what was a hotly contested first half.
Going into the third quarter, it still looked to be either team’s game.
The trio of Izzy Wright, Rachel Antoniadou and Penina Davidson led the way for Nunawading, however Melbourne were able to take control to close the quarter, before unleashing an offensive explosion in the final term.
The Tigers outscored the Spectres 27-8 over the final 10 minutes, led by strong work on the glass and crisp passing.
Monique Conti nearly registered a triple double for Melbourne, scoring 28 points to go along with her eight rebounds and seven assists, while Zitina Aokuso tallied a strong double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).
The win was an important one for the Tigers, as the side aims to break into the top four of the conference.
Frankston Blues 90 def Albury Wodonga Bandits 67
In a battle of one undefeated team and one winless team, the Frankston Blues have beaten the Albury Wodonga Bandits at home.
Both teams set a manic pace early, with Frankston getting the better of the majority of exchanges in the first term.
However, led by Emma Mahady, the Bandits looked to push its way back into the game in the second quarter.
Mahady’s 22 points and five assists helped Albury Wodonga come within four points of tying the game in the second, however the experience and class of Frankston's side ultimately proved to be the difference.
After weathering the Bandit’s attack in the second term, the Blues locked down its opponents after the halftime break, holding the visitors to just seven points in the quarter and pulling ahead by as many as 25 points.
Thanks to some lights-out three-point shooting from Darcee Garbin and Taylah Giliam (five three-pointers each), Frankston was able to hold onto its lead and remain without a loss this season.
