The Queen's Birthday long weekend Round 7 action in the NBL1 North saw Friday night victories for the Rockhampton Cyclones, Mackay Meteorettes, Logan Thunder and Brisbane Capitals.
It was an evening to savour for the travelling teams on Friday night with all four victors to open Round 7 of the NBL1 North season doing so away from home.
The Rockhampton Cyclones produced an impressive performance at Carrara Stadium on Friday night to defeat the Gold Coast Rollers 67-57.
Jannon Otto was the star of the night for Rockhampton with 29 points and 12 rebounds with Lauren Mansfield finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds for Gold Coast.
Then at JBS Stadium, the Mackay Meteorettes made the perfect start to their second triple-header road trip in three weeks by beating the Ipswich Force 103-77.
Miela Goodchild played a starring role in the win for the Meteorettes with 32 points on the back of draining 6/10 from three-point territory. Amanda Cahill top-scored for Ipswich with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The Logan Thunder began their double-header road trip in Round 7 strongly also beating the Cairns Dolphins 102-71 at Early Settler Stadium.
Chevannah Paalvast impressed for Logan with 26 points while Mikaela Ruef was enormous with 25 points and 22 rebounds. Penina Davidson top-scored for Cairns with 26 points and nine rebounds.
The Brisbane Capitals then held the Sunshine Coast Phoenix to just four points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 77-51 win at Maroochydore Stadium.
Bronte Corke put up 27 points in the win for Brisbane with Abby Cubillo adding 17 points and six assists. Nicola Handreck top-scored with 13 points for Sunshine Coast.
Round 7 in the NBL1 North competition continues on Saturday evening at 5pm with the Brisbane Capitals at home to the Gold Coast Rollers with the Northside Wizards also taking on the South West Metro Pirates.
Then at 5.30pm, the Red City Roar host the Mackay Meteorettes in the second leg of their triple-header with USC Rip City also playing the Southern Districts Spartans.
Then at 6pm on Saturday night it's the Townsville Flames hosting the Logan Thunder before at 6.30pm it's the North Gold Coast Seahawks at home to the Rockhampton Cyclones.
The round then wraps up on Sunday at 11am with the South West Metro Pirates hosting the Mackay Meteorettes at Hibiscus Sports Stadium.

The Rockhampton Cyclones started strongly on the road to the Gold Coast Rollers and were able to keep the momentum going for a 10-point Friday night victory.
While the Rollers were at home at Carrara Stadium, it was the visiting Cyclones who started the better putting on eight consecutive points in the first quarter to lead by as much as nine.
Rockhampton then went on another 10-0 run during the second period to go into the half-time break leading 35-27.
While the Rollers did make a couple of runs in the second half, including scoring 11 straight points in the fourth term, Rockhampton had all the answers to end up winning 67-57.
The win improves the Cyclones to a 3-5 record on the season while the Rollers are now 4-4 after a hot start to their 2022 campaign.
Jannon Otto delivered a huge performance for the Cyclones with 29 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 10/19 from the floor and 7/8 from the foul line.
Lara McSpadden added 16 points and six rebounds for Rockhampton, Heidi Freeburn nine points, eight boards, four assists and three steals, and Maddison Torresin eight points and two assists.
Lauren Mansfield top scored again for Gold Coast with 18 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals with Angela Lou Beadle adding 10 points and three boards, and Sarah Heard nine points and four rebounds.
IPSWICH FORCE 77 lost to MACKAY METEORETTES 103
The Mackay Meteorettes began another triple-header road trip in style on Friday night beating the Ipswich Force 103-77.
The Force were at home to the Meteorettes at JBS Stadium and it didn't take long for Mackay to work their way on top even with the daunting task of undertaking a second three-game road weekend in the last three weeks.
However, Ipswich got rolling in impressive fashion in the second quarter coming back from a 10-point deficit to end the opening half in style to put up 34 points and to only be down two by half-time.
Mackay was able to work their way back on top during the third term going back up double-figures following a 9-0 run before another 13 straight points in the fourth period helped them secure the impressive 103-77 victory away from home.
The Meteorettes improve to 5-4 on the season with the win with road games against the Red City Roar on Saturday and South West Metro Pirates to come this weekend. The loss sees Ipswich slip to 1-8 on the season.
Miela Goodchild ended the evening with a standout performance for Mackay made up of 32 points, four rebounds and two assists while hitting 6/10 from the land of plenty.
Ellie Collins added 16 points and six rebounds for the Meteorettes, Shaneice Swain 14 points and three boards, and Monique Bobongie 13 points, five steals, three assists and two rebounds.
Tia Hay finished with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals for Ipswich with Amanda Cahill contributing 18 points, nine boards and five assists, Georgia Ralph 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Kasey Burton 10 points.
CAIRNS DOLPHINS 71 lost to LOGAN THUNDER 102
The Logan Thunder began the double-header road trip this weekend in emphatic fashion beating the Cairns Dolphins in Far North Queensland by 31 points on Friday night.
The Thunder arrived at Early Settler Stadium having won their opening five matches of the 2022 NBL1 North season and they didn’t take long for them to stamp their authority on the Dolphins on Friday night.
Cairns managed just the eight points in the first term with Logan going on a 23-0 run to end up leading by 25 points at quarter-time.
From there it was just a manner of maintaining their dominance for the Thunder the rest of evening. They led by as much as 30 points by the second quarter with the lead ballooning to 42 during the fourth term before they ended up winning 102-71.
The victory improves Logan to a perfect 6-0 record on the season ahead of their trip to Townsville on Saturday night while the Dolphins slip to 5-3 following the defeat.
It was a hot shooting performance from the Thunder from three-point territory going 19/34 at 55.9 per cent as a team with four players all hitting multiple long-range bombs. In contrast, Cairns went 5/24 at 20.8 per cent from the land of plenty.
Mikaela Ruef was quite the dominant force for the Thunder finishing with 25 points, 22 rebounds, five steals and three assists while hitting 5/9 from three-point land.
Chevannah Paalvast added 26 points and three rebounds for Logan, Sigi Koizar 14 points and 10 assists, Carla Drennan 13 points, five assists and four boards, and Indiah Bowyer 10 points.
Penina Davidson battled hard for the Dolphins with 26 points and nine rebounds with Cayla George adding 21 points, 17 rebounds and six assists but they just didn’t have enough help on the evening.
SUNSHINE COAST PHOENIX 51 lost to BRISBANE CAPITALS 77
The Brisbane Capitals were another team to go on the road on Friday night and come away with an impressive win, proving too good for the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.
The Phoenix hosted the Capitals in Friday night NBL1 North action at Maroochydore Stadium with the Capitals beginning impressively with a 12-point advantage by the end of the first quarter.
Brisbane went on another 11-0 run during the second period to help them remain in control leading 46-31 by half-time.
The Phoenix were able to stay in touch by three quarter-time, but that didn’t last with them only managing the four points in the fourth period with Brisbane piling on another 20 to end up winning 77-51.
The result sees the Capitals improve to a 5-3 record on the season while the losses means the Phoenix are now 1-8.
Bronte Corke had a big night for Brisbane with 27 points and five rebounds while knocking down 4/9 from three-point land.
Abby Cubillo added 17 points, six assists, four steals and three rebounds, Steph Collins 10 points and four boards, Courtney Middap eight points and three rebounds, and Anna Cameron eight points, 16 boards and three assists.
Nicola Handreck top-scored for Sunshine Coast with 13 points while Caitlin Clancy finished with 12 points and four rebounds, and Amy Browne 11 points and 19 rebounds.
