But in the second quarter the Dolphins put their foot down with 36 points to 10 on the back of shooting 14/22 from the field to the 3/15 from the Force to go into half-time in control leading 65-36.

Cairns continued to build on their lead from there stretching it out to 39 points in the third quarter and 44 in the last on the way to the eventual 38-point victory.

The Dolphins return home with the pair of wins by a combined 70 points as they improve to an 8-4 record with Summah Evans producing her best performance since returning from Clemson University with 27 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks on 10/14 field goal shooting and 4/6 from downtown.

MEN

Ipswich Force (110) defeated Cairns Marlins (96)

The duo of Lamar Patterson and DJ Mitchell could take the Ipswich Force a long way in 2025 with the pair combining for 65 points in the 110-96 Sunday home win against the Cairns Marlins.

Ipswich had scored 130 points in an overtime win the week before against the Brisbane Capitals and were back at Ipswich Basketball Stadium on Sunday afternoon to host a Cairns team who started their road double with a 15-point loss to the South West Metro Pirates.

It was a flying start at home for Ipswich with 30 points to 16 in the first quarter on shooting 12/22 from the field to the 6/18 from Cairns.

The Force added another 28 points to 24 in the second term to go into half-time leading 58-40 having led by as much as 23 points in that quarter.

The Marlins then stormed back into the contest in the third quarter by scoring 10 straight points but Ipswich responded by going on an 18-0 run of their own and that put the contest to bed.

From there the Force ended up scoring the 14-point victory even with the Marlins shooting at a slightly higher clip gong 48 per cent to the 46 from Ipswich.

However, the Force took seven extra shots and 12 more free-throw attempts along with 18 offensive rebounds and forcing Cairns into 16 turnovers from which they scored 16 points.

The win improves Ipswich to a 7-5 record on the season to be sitting in fifth position with two games to go at home to the Southern Districts Spartans and Gold Coast Rollers.

Lamar Patterson continues his MVP level form this season for Ipswich to show that another NBL opportunity might not be beyond him. He delivered another 34 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds with 4/9 three-point shooting and going 10/11 from the foul line.

DJ Mitchell is returning to the NBL this coming season at the South East Melbourne Phoenix and he had 31 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals with 6/15 three-point shooting.
