The sky is the limit for Kobe McDowell-White
Will McDowell-White may currently be making waves with the Boomers and New Zealand Breakers, but he’s far from the only exceptional basketballer in his family. His younger brother, Kobe, is currently turning heads with some strong displays of his own for the Red City Roar in the NBL1 North.

Will McDowell-White may currently be making waves with the Boomers and New Zealand Breakers, but he’s far from the only exceptional basketballer in his family. His younger brother, Kobe, is currently turning heads with some strong displays with the Southern District Spartans in the NBL1 North.
Still completing his final year of high school, Kobe McDowell-White has averaged over 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in this season’s competition. He’s been a shining light in what has been an otherwise difficult season for the Spartans.
Will says the world is his younger brother’s oyster at the moment.
“Last year he (Kobe) had a monster year in NBL1. This year hasn’t been the same but a bit of that is probably that the team hasn’t been that great,” the older McDowell-White said on The Huddle.
“He has a strap on him, he can shoot the lights out. The one big thing on him is his height but we’ll see how he does.
“I’m not sure what he wants to do after high school … he might go overseas, he might go to school. It’s his world.”
Both Kobe and Will linked up at Red City with their older brother, Darryl Jr, for the 2021 season at the Roar upon Will’s return from the NBA G-League.
The trio coming together for that season was special enough, all donning a Red City Roar jersey and lined up together with that season’s First Nations Round.
“That was cool because the year before, when Covid broke out, Kobe was playing for Spartans while Darryl and I played for Red City,” Will said.
“I think the coolest thing was the first game of us three playing together was Indigenous Round which is a big thing for us. We got a nice win and it was cool to make the debut of us three on Indigenous Round representing our people and the culture.”
